The Contest "Clean Region" has been Announced in Georgia




Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia, Ministry of
Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with support of  the
Ministry of Justice of Georgia took part in a meeting  concerning the
announcement of the contest  "Clean Region" in the House of Justice as part
of "Clean Up Georgia" campaign.



The contest "Clean Region" was first announced in Georgia within the
framework of the campaign "Clean up Georgia" in 2015 and its purpose was to
identify the most clean region, municipality and village. The winners of the
2015 competition were Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, Akhmeta municipality
and village Chitakatskaro - Zugdidi municipality. This year, the competition
is held for the second time.



In 2017, unlike previous competitions,  the contest  "Clean Region" will be
held in six nominations, such as Clean City; Clean Street; Clean Region;
Clean Municipality; Clean Village; Beautiful Yard.



During the meeting held in the House of Justice, Community  Centers of
Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice  in the regions
were involved as well: Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Kvemo Kartli, Shida
Kartli, Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Samegrelo -  Zemo Svaneti and Guria.



Representatives of regional organizations of the Greens Movement of Georgia
/ Friends of the Earth-Georgia and local coordinators of the project “Clean
up Georgia Phase III"  attended the meeting together with representatives of
local authorities.



During the meeting, the manager of the project “Clean up Georgia Phase III"
presented the results of  activities carried out in the regions within the
framework of the project  as well as   planned activities  in this
direction,  in which representatives of partner organizations also took
part.



The regional representatives were welcomed  by  Ms. Nino Chkhobadze -
Co-Chair of the  Greens Movement / Friends of the Earth - Georgia;  Mr.
Gigla Agulashvili - Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources
of Georgia: Mr. Alexander Baramidze-   Acting Minister of Justice;
Representatives of  Swedish International Development Agency -  Ms.  Elsa
Hastad - Assistant  Director General, Eurolatin, Sida;    Ms.Mirja
Peterson -  Head of Division for Environment, Market Development and Eastern
Europe, Sida;   Ms. Molly Lien - Head of Development Cooperation/ Deputy
Head of Mission.



At the meeting, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection Mr.
Gigla Agulashvili  announced the contest  "Clean Region".  Information about
the terms of the competition will be distributed through social networks and
sent to all regions. Summing up of received information will be made by the
Greens Movement of Georgia . The winners will be nominated by the end of
October and will be awarded.



“Clean Up Georgia” campaign is carried out within the framework of the
project “Clean Up Georgia” (Phase III)   and implemented by NGO  consortium
Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia, Georgian Society of
Nature Explorers “Orchis, “Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”  with
financial support of Swedish Government and in collaboration with the
Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and
Solid Waste Management Company.
