“Investing in new fossil fuel infrastructure is
moral and economic madness."
It seems that the UN Secretary-General's warning didn't
make it to Loyd's of London this week. While most European
insurers are starting to drop the worst wrecking fossil fuel
projects, Lloyd’s execs are still set on plowing millions
into insuring the Trans Mountain pipeline.
With more
than 85 spills since it started, that have leaked hundreds of
thousands of liters of black crude oil across pristine Canadian
landscapes, this ruinous mega-oil highway is poisoning
Indigenous lands.
As one of the largest backers of the project, it’s vital
to get Lloyd’s to end this insurance recklessness!
In a few weeks, Lloyd's is holding its
Annual General Meeting. Climate activists from around the
world are already mobilizing to disrupt the usual celebrations of
profitability and bonuses.
While mobilisations in Canada will focus on frontline defense,
Indigenous communities are calling on allies all over the world to
specifically target Lloyd’s of London. Let’s show the power
of our international solidarity and increase the pressure on Lloyd’s
like never before:
Vladimir,
email blast Lloyd’s execs ahead of the AGM to demand they rule out
insuring the toxic Trans Mountain pipeline
The Trans Mountain pipeline and its expansion have been fiercely
opposed for years by people globally and more than 120 First Nations
and Tribes comprising the Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands
Expansion.
This spring, traditional owners on the frontline of Trans
Mountain are leading mobilisations to resist the building of the
pipeline. To support their efforts, alongside our partners
at Coal Action Network, we’re taking mass action to disrupt business
as usual ahead of Lloyd’s AGM.
Lloyd’s CEO, John Neal, can no longer ignore the international
call to drop the toxic Trans Mountain Pipeline. Let’s show
him that we won’t give up until Lloyd’s rules out this dreadful
project.
Write
to the CEOs of Lloyd’s top syndicates to demand they rule out
insuring the toxic Trans Mountain pipeline, now!
SumOfUs has forced financial institutions to pull out of
dangerous pipelines before. When over 360,000 members like you
called on major banks to pull the plug on the Dakota Access pipeline
during the heart of the Standing Rock protests, the largest bank in
Norway decided to pull funding the day after we brought your names
to their headquarters.
Last year, mass mobilization driven by a coalition of NGOs and
activists successfully convinced 15 of Lloyd’s syndicates to
rule out insuring the Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline!
Momentum is building. Insurance companies are waking up to the
reality that the breakdown of the climate means not only the
destruction of their business models, but the beginning of a global
humanitarian and environmental crisis.
Together we can make Lloyd’s feel the heat and get them
to end this “moral and economic madness” once for all.
Write
to Lloyd’s execs and get them to do the right thing for people and
the planet!
