Forest Policy

Draft Document Reviewed by Specialists



On April 25 and 26, at the Balazeti Tourist Complex, a discussion of Georgia’s
forest policy draft document was held. The aim of the two-day workshop was
to facilitate the introduction of amendments to the text by specialists.



The document developed with expert support from Austrian Federal Forests
(OBf) was comprehensively reviewed by representatives of academic and social
sectors, together with representatives of international organizations and
foreign experts. Following a thematic discussion, agreement was reached on
principal issues.



The remarks expressed by the participants were sent to the Austrian Federal
Forest Service in the form of comments. The process of introducing
amendments to the draft text will continue through individual consultation
with sector specialists.



The Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia will present the document
for public hearings following agreement with state agencies. After the
publication and public hearing of the document, specialists will once again
convene to amend the text in accordance with stakeholder recommendations,
after which the document will be submitted to Parliament for approval.



In parallel, a regional information campaign with regards to the reforms in
the forestry sector is underway. Information meetings were conducted in over
40 municipalities of Georgia.



The development of the state forest policy document for Georgia is being
implemented with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency
(ADA).
