Help us make polluters fund a just transition to clean, affordable renewable energy now.

350.org

Hi,

Fossil fuels are not only causing the climate crisis: they’re funding Putin’s war on Ukraine.

As long as we’re dependent on fossil fuels, we will always be at the mercy of the powerful who extract them.

The path to freedom, peace and a safe, livable future is clean, renewable energy.

It’s green, sustainable, affordable, and can protect ordinary people from price shocks and the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

But, this rapid transition away from fossil fuels must be rooted in justice.

That means holding those responsible for the climate crisis to account, and making them pay their fair share to fix the problem they created.

Will you call on world leaders to make polluters pay for a transition to renewables?

Fossil fuel companies have not only profited from Putin’s war in the past few weeks. [1] Polluters like Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP, Total Energies and Shell announced record profits recently. [2] And their profits are expected to rise by as much as 50 percent next year. [3]

But, few oil giants are keen on paying their taxes. In some cases, they are actually paying negative taxes. [4]

Meanwhile, regular people are struggling to pay their power and heating bills, and are feeling the deadly effects of the climate crisis.

We need to break free from fossil fuels and the dictators they prop up. We need clean, safe energy that will protect people from the instability and destruction fossil fuels bring.

Will you tell governments to make polluters pay for the transition to clean, affordable, safe energy?

Right now, there is growing political will for those with the most wealth to pay their fair share.

Just last year, over 130 leaders signed their countries up to a global corporation tax to make sure billionaire companies couldn’t keep dodging taxes. [5]

Charging fossil fuel companies’ profits isn’t only the right thing to do. It’s entirely possible with enough of us working together, and our movement knows how to apply pressure.

Today, I’m asking you to join me, and many more, in calling for polluters to finally be part of the solution. And that means hitting them where it hurts - their profits.

Will you be one of the many taking action, Vladimir?

Onwards,

Cansin for 350.org
