As if the U.S.
hasn't already done enough to take away rights from Native
American tribes, Trump's Environmental "Protection" Agency
(EPA) is currently in the process of ripping away even
more rights. Fossil fuel corporations operating in
Oklahoma were frustrated with tribes' abilities to place
restrictions on how much they could pollute — so they
petitioned the state governor, J. Kevin Stitt, and the EPA to
step in. In response, Trump's cronies revoked tribes'
ability to oversee environmental regulation on their own
lands. Now, polluters have expanded bandwith to pollute
and dump toxic waste with impunity.
Dirty-energy corporations have
now gotten everything they wanted: the freedom to dump
poisonous waste — including chemicals like lead, asbestos,
glyphosate, and more — on Native American lands, while leaving
tribes to do all the clean-up. They've gained protection for
large-scale factory farms, as well as their resulting
pollution from farm run-off. And, of course, they have
increased ability to frack on tribal land, subjecting Native
Americans to dangerously contaminated air and water. This is
horrific and cruel. We've already taken so much of
Native Americans' lands away from them. We can't also remove
their rights to steward what land they do have left.
Sign the petition to tell the EPA it must revert
environmental regulatory control back to the Native American
tribes that live on these lands!
Thank you for all that you do,

P.S. Trump's
friends have infantilized Native American tribes by voiding
their environmental sovereignty in order to cater to oil and
gas companies. Sign the petition to stand with these
tribes! |
