Kvareli Minorities to Enter Niko Ketskhoveli
Competition
A large number of villages inhabited by ethnic minorities
distinguishes
Kvareli Municipality. The villages include Saruso, Tivi,
Zinobiani and
Mtisdziri, where Leks, Udebs and Ossetians are living. The
minorities and
Georgian have historically shared strong ties that would
manifest itself
with trade and other relationships, however, due to social,
religious and
political factors, theses ties weakened, resulting in a break
in community
livelihoods.
These circumstances negatively
affect the communities, especially the
ethnical minorities. Today, the only
means of communication between
Georgians and ethnic minorities is the
Akhalsopeli market, which gathers
once a week and an annual public holiday –
Sameboba, where a grappling
tournament takes place. Of course, this is not
enough for strengthening the
community ties.
