Second Resiliece Forum for Policy Makers,
Expers, NGOs, Media, Private
Sector, Local Governments and Civil Society
Representatives
On February 28th from 9am to 5:00pm, in Batumi at
“Sheraton” hotel Oxfam
together with its implementing partner organizations:
Bridge Innovation and
Development (BRIDGE) and Black Sea Eco- Academy (BSEA)
will host the second
Resilience Forum organized within the framework of DG
European Civil
Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Funded “Supporting
Community
Resilience in the South Caucasus” programme. The forum is
supported by
Batumi City Hall and Sheraton Batumi hotel.
The
forum will bring together policy makers, civil society organisations and
key
stakeholders to present the new National Disaster Risk Reduction
Strategy
endorsed by the State Security and Crisis Management Council in
January 2017
and to discuss its synergies with the work and plans of
regional and
municipal governments in Adjara as well as the opportunities
for engagement
of other sector partners: private sector, media and academia
with a focus on
the key Strategy priorities: local level risk management,
gender,
inclusiveness, and multi-sectoral involvement.
The series of
events aim to facilitate a regional multi-sectoral and
multi-stakeholder
dialogue on challenges and best practices in policy and
practice work to
support rural and urban resilience in Adjara. The
initiative contributes
towards intensifying the know-how transfer and
communication on the key
country and regional strategies, like Sendai
Framework for Disaster Risk
Reduction 2015-2030 and other frameworks and
plans at all governance levels
related to climate change adaptation,
disaster risk reduction, livelihoods,
environmental protection and synergies
among
them.
Background:
Oxfam’s “Supporting
Community Resilience in the South Caucasus” is a
Regional Programme
implemented with local partners in Georgia (by “Bridge –
Innovation and
Development” “Black Sea Eco Academy”) and in Armenia (by
“Oxygen” –and
“Bridge of Hope”) aims at protecting people and their
livelihoods from
impacts of natural disasters and climate change. Oxfam and
partner
organizations work in 43 communities of Adjara, Mtskheta-Mtianeti
and
Kakheti (Georgia) and Tavush (Armenia) to invest in and prepare for
local
communities and governments on how to act before, during and after
natural
disasters with a focus on involvement of diverse groups and
individuals: men
and women, children, youth and elder, governments,
community lobbyists and
initiatives groups, volunteers, as well as people
with
disabilities
