Donald Trump
will not be the U.S. President for much longer, but he's still
wreaking destruction on the environment. In fact, less than a
week before Election Day, he rolled back protections for one
of the world's largest carbon sinks and the largest national
forest in the country, Tongass National Forest in Alaska. As a
huge temperate rainforest, Tongass is a rare, special place —
and hugely necessary in the fight against climate change.
But Trump just gave the go-ahead allowing
logging corporations to roll through and chop down whatever
they like. Including ancient, old-growth
timber.
These companies will now be
permitted to bring their huge, noisy, destructive equipment
into this sanctuary to fell more than 188,000 forested acres
to become timber. On top of that, they will also be destroying
animals' homes. Brown bears, Sitka black-tailed deer, wild
Pacific salmon, and trout all flourish there in abundance. But
now, many of them will inevitably die. Trump has no
mandate to continue ravaging the earth. In three months, he's
out — and we have to stop him from wrecking the planet for
decades to come. Sign the petition to demand that Congress act
immediately to replace protections on Tongass National Forest
before it is utterly destroyed!
Thank you for all that you do,

P.S. Tongass is
a special and beautiful place, but if we don't act fast, it
could all be decimated. Tell Congress to restore protections to this
pristine ecosystem now! |
