CENN in Cooperation with UNEP Launches Sustainable Low Emissions Transport Development Project in Georgia | |||||||||||||
On 20 October 2017 CENN in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) under Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) officially launched a new “Sustainable Low Emissions Transport Development” project, supporting Georgia to put in place sustainable and low emissions transport policies with the ultimate objective of improving public health and reducing climate change.
This project will assist the Government of Georgia to harmonize Georgian legislation with EU requirements and protect human health and environment from negative impacts of harmful emissions from the road transport sector. This will lead to increased auto fuel economy and lower CO2 and emissions from the transport sector.
In addition, this work will contribute to the implementation of the Global Strategy to introduce low sulfur fuels and cleaner diesel vehicles of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).
The launching event was attended by the representatives of authorities, NGOs, international experts and GFEI country-level partners from Moldova, Montenegro, Ukraine, FYR Macedonia to discuss progress and plans in national implementation of the GFEI global targets.
The project is funded by the UNEP under the Climate Change Subprogram 2016-17, to strengthen the abilities of countries to move towards climate – resilient and low emission pathways for sustainable development and human well-being.
