Earth Day – “Cleanly Towards Europe”
On 22
April 2017, the International Earth Day, Consortium of NGOs
“Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of Nature
Explorers “Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the
Earth
-Georgia”, within the framework of the “Clean Up Georgia -phase III”
project
and in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Natural
Resources
Protection of Georgia will take part in the cleanup campaign
entitled
“Cleanly Towards Europe”, organized by the Ministry.
Earth Day
will be a symbolic beginning of the chain of activities, which
will include
the long-term cleanup actions across the country. The campaign
will involve
all regions of the country involving government and
non-governmental
organizations, diplomatic missions, ministries, local
governments,
municipalities, businesses and private companies, as well as
volunteers,
universities, public schools and celebrities - approximately
22,000 people
on up to 500 locations across the country.
Earth Day is one of
the largest environmental events in the world. Every
year over 175
countries, 17,000 organizations and millions of volunteers are
involved in
the campaign. Georgia joined this initiative in 1990 and since
then has been
celebrating it through various environmental activities.
The
project “Clean Up Georgia-Phase III” is implemented by a Consortium of
NGOs
“Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of Nature
Explorers “Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the
Earth
-Georgia” with the full financial support of the Swedish
Government.
