Conference on Adaptation to Climate
Change
Two days conference on Adaptation to
Climate change, which was organized in the frames of the CFE program, took place
in Tbilisi, Betsy’s Hotel, on May 17-18th. The purpose of the conference was to
share knowledge and experiences on Climate Change Adaptation and its
sustainability gained throughout the planning and implementation of small-scale
adaptation projects at local level in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and
Ukraine within the ‘Climate Forum East’ program.
The conference was attended by
representatives of EU and other donor organizations, local SCOs, government,
experts from partner countries. NGO “EcoVision” representatives also attended
the event. On the first day after the welcoming speech, the facilitator gave the
floor to Key note speaker, Ms. Maia Tskvaradze who spoke about the adaptation in
creative and interesting manner touching topics like elaboration of National
Adaptation Plan (NAP), funding opportunities for NAP, giving examples from
Georgian and other countries.
During Adaptation Planning participants
working in country groups share their experiences, challenges and achievements
in adaptation planning during the CFE project implementation. Also,
representatives of all five countries had an opportunity to discuss experiences
and lessons learned from small scale adaptation projects during World Café
session which went in very interactive and informative way.
During the second day of the conference
participants had more chance to share information on their projects through
well-designed Marketplace section showcasting achievements of the projects in
more details.
Three parallel sessions were dedicated
to the Sustainability Insights. The main topics for discussion were: cost
benefit analysis to advocate for local adaptation, sustainability of local
adaptation actions and multiplying and scaling up of local adaptation
actions.
The closure speech of conference was
given by the manager of the program Ms. Gerlinde Astleithner, who underlined the
importance of each person involved in the project for overall
success.
