Earth Day in Kutaisi
On April 21, within the framework of "Clean-up Georgia" campaign,
celebrating the Earth Day Week, a clean-up action was held in Kutaisi. The
event has been organized by the regional coordinator of the Greens Movement
of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia.
During the action central streets of Kutaisi, Chavchavadze Avenue and square
were cleaned up. The event has been attended by representatives of local
authorities and local population, together with organizers - totalling up to
300 volunteers. Within the framework of the action, 2 hectares of land area
was cleaned up and 1.5 m3 of waste were collected.
Clean up action in Kutaisi has been conducted within the framework of the
project “Clean Up Georgia” (Phase III) and implemented by NGO consortium the
Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia, Georgian Society of
Nature Explorers “Orchis, “Ecological Awareness and Waste Management” with
financial support of Swedish Government and in collaboration with the
Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and
Solid Waste Management Company.
