Что мы делаем, когда допускаем вырубку лесов на планете?  Как это влияет на небольшие водные циклы, которые поддерживают влажность нашей планеты и позволяют производить необходимые нам продукты? Какое отношение обезлесение имеет к экстремальной жаре, засухе, наводнениям, ураганам и другим ускоряющимся глобальным климатическим явлениям?

Наши уважаемые гости изучали эти вопросы в течение многих лет и имеют более чем 50-летний опыт исследований, написания статей и публикаций.  Жизнь и взросление в девственных лесах добавило некоторым интуитивного понимания мира природы.

Ботаник Ян Покорны объяснит роль растений в распределении солнечной энергии и в транспирации, в то время как атмосферный физик Анастасия Макарьева представит биотический насос или перспективу переноса влаги.  Физик-теоретик Андрей Нефьодов прольет свет на то, как прекращение вырубки лесов в Амазонии может помочь сдержать угрозу ураганов.

Репортер-эколог Харт Хаган будет модератором этого критически важного и своевременного мероприятия.

 

 

No Trees, No Rain

What are we doing when we allow deforestation of the planet?  How does this affect the small water cycles that have kept our planet moist and able to produce the foods we need? What relationship does deforestation have to extreme heat, drought, floods, hurricanes and other accelerating global climate phenomenon? 

Our distinguished guests have studied these questions for many years and have, between them, over 50 years of research, writing and publication experience.  Living and growing up in pristine forests has added intuitive insights into the natural world for some.

Botanist Jan Pokorny will explain the role of plants in distributing solar energy and in transpiration, while atmospheric physicist Anastassia Makarieva will present the biotic pump or moisture transport perspective.  Theoretical physicist Andrei Nefiodov will shed light on how stopping Amazonian deforestation could help keep the hurricane threat at bay.

Environmental reporter Hart Hagan will be the moderator for this critically important and timely event.

Our landscapes are losing water as people alter the environment, cut trees, drain wetlands, and use chemicals that destroy the soil.    And we’re feeling the heat.   By learning from nature, we can improve the climate where we live. We can learn from plants and trees which provide air conditioning for the Earth. They help drive the water cycle, tame damaging wind and rain storms and even address giant heat islands over the Midwest and forest fires.   Climate scientist Anastassia Makarieva of the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute and botanist Jan Pokorný (co-author of the New Water Paradigm) will discuss these issues and answer audience questions.
