2022 marks the
30th anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary
Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), adopted in Helsinki
in 1992.
Estonia, currently chairing the Water
Convention, will be hosting the following events in Tallinn and online, as
decided by the Meeting of the Parties at its ninth session:
Joint meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management and the Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment under the Water Convention
The joint meeting of both Working Groups will start on Tuesday, 28 June at 10 a.m., and end on Wednesday, 29 June 2022 at 6 p.m. It will take place at Swissotel Tallinn and online.
The main objectives of the meeting are to:
- Review implementation of the Water Convention work programme for 2022–2024;
- Discuss progress in the Convention’s global opening and ongoing and planned activities;
- Review progress in activities supporting monitoring and assessment and information-sharing in transboundary basins;
- Discuss the implementation of decisions taken by the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention at its 9th session (Geneva and online, 29 September–1 October 2021).
Special event marking the 30th anniversary of the Water Convention
On behalf of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Ministry of Environment of Estonia and Finland, please find attached a letter with the invitation to participate to the Special event marking the 30th anniversary of the Water Convention.
The event will be held on Thursday, 30 June 2022, starting at 9.30 a.m. and ending at 5.30 p.m. It will take place at Tallinn Creative Hub and online.
It will review the achievements and lessons learned in the last thirty years under the Convention. It will also discuss future challenges and how the Convention can help to address them.
It will be an interactive meeting and we encourage all participants to contribute to the interactive discussions.
Participation
The meeting is open to experts representing governmental authorities, joint bodies, non-governmental as well as international organizations and other interested stakeholders, from the academia or the private sector.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe is committed to gender equality. To this end, we encourage Member States to ensure gender balanced participation in the meeting.
Format of the meeting
It is expected that most participants take part in person to the meetings in Tallinn, Estonia. Online participation will also be possible.
The working languages for the meeting will be English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Visa application
Estonia is part of the Schengen area. Participants requiring a visa are therefore invited to register as soon as possible and start the visa application procedure at least 5 weeks in advance.
If you need a personal invitation letter for visa purpose, please indicate it clearly in your registration.

Financial support
Eligible participants from countries with economies in transition and developing countries may apply for financial support to facilitate their participation in the meeting. However, due to limited funding, only one participant per country/organization is eligible for support.
Applications for financial support should be submitted to the Secretariat (mayola...@un.org) as soon as possible, but not later than 17 May 2022 using the attached financial support request form which needs to be duly signed by the authorizing official. No application will be accepted after this deadline.Applicants will be notified by end of May whether their request is accepted.
Hotel accommodations
All participants are responsible for booking and covering the costs of their accommodation.
Estonia has selected 4 hotels, which offer preferential rates for participants. To book rooms in those hotels, participants have to make their booking through the chosen hotel’s website or contact the hotel directly. Please note that the special rate is subject to room availability.

L’année 2022 marque le 30ème anniversaire de la Convention sur la protection et l'utilisation des cours d'eau transfrontières et des lacs internationaux (Convention sur l'eau), adoptée à Helsinki en 1992.
L'Estonie, qui assure actuellement la présidence de la Convention sur l'eau, accueillera les événements suivants à Tallinn et en ligne, comme l'a décidé la Réunion des Parties lors de sa neuvième session :
Réunion conjointe du Groupe de travail sur la gestion intégrée des ressources en eau et du Groupe de travail sur la surveillance et l'évaluation dans le cadre de la Convention sur l'eau.
La réunion conjointe des deux Groupes de travail débutera le mardi 28 juin à 10 heures et se terminera le mercredi 29 juin 2022 à 18 heures. Elle se tiendra au Swissotel Tallinn et en ligne.
Les principaux objectifs de la réunion sont les suivants :

Evénement spécial marquant le 30ème anniversaire de la Convention sur l'eau

В 2022 году Конвенции по охране и использованию трансграничных водотоков и международных озер (Конвенция по трансграничным водам), принятой в Хельсинки в 1992 году, исполняется 30 лет. В соответствии с решением Совещания сторон, принятым на его девятой сессии, г. Таллинн, Эстония (в настоящее время председателем Конвенции) будет местом проведения следующих мероприятий:
Совместное совещание Рабочей группы по интегрированному управлению водными ресурсами и Рабочей группы по мониторингу и оценке
Совместное совещание Рабочих групп начнется во вторник, 28 июня, в 10:00 и закончится в среду, 29 июня 2022 года, в 18:00. Совещание состоится в Swissotel Tallinn и онлайн.
Основные цели заседания:
- Рассмотреть выполнение программы работы Конвенции по трансграничным водам на 2022–2024 гг ;

Специальное мероприятие, посвященное 30-летию Конвенции по трансграничным водам
От имени Европейской экономической комиссии Организации Объединённых Наций и министерств окружающей среды Эстонии и Финляндии к данному сообщению прилагается письмо с приглашением принять участие в специальном мероприятии, посвященном 30-летию Конвенции по трансграничным водам.
Мероприятие начнется в 9:30 и завершится в 5:30 в четверг, 30 июня 2022 года. Мероприятие состоится в Таллиннском творческом центре (Tallinn Creative Hub) и онлайн.
На нем будут рассмотрены достижения и уроки, извлеченные за последние тридцать лет работы Конвенции. Также будут обсуждаться будущие проблемы и как Конвенция может помочь в их решении.
Это будет интерактивная встреча, и мы призываем всех участников внести свой вклад в интерактивные обсуждения.
Участие
Встреча открыта для экспертов, представляющих правительственные органы, совместные органы, неправительственные, а также международные организации и другие заинтересованные стороны из научных кругов или частного сектора. El año 2022 marca el 30º aniversario del Convenio sobre la Protección y Utilización de los Cursos de Agua Transfronterizos y los Lagos Internacionales (Convenio del Agua), adoptado en Helsinki en 1992. Estonia, que preside actualmente el Convenio del Agua, acogerá los siguientes eventos en Tallin y en línea, según lo decidido por la Reunión de las Partes en su novena sesión:
