A safety net for all Europeans facing hardship. It’s possible! In a few days Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk will be looking into the creation of Guaranteed Minimum Income Schemes for the EU. Show your support. |
Did you know that there are places in Europe where thousands of people are not protected by health insurance? Places where you don’t get help when you are unemployed or take care of a family member with disability? [1]
Depending on the country you live in, and the government which is in power, the support you get in life hardships is very different.
But what if we created a safety net for everybody in Europe? A guarantee that you will be protected if something goes wrong and you are not able to support yourself or your family. This safety net has a name: it is the Guaranteed Minimum Income Schemes. [2]
In a few days EAPN is organising a huge conference on Guaranteed Income Schemes. Some of the most important politicians in the EU accepted the invitation, among them Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk. [3] We are going to hand them our petition and we want to show an outpouring of support from thousands of us.

What’s the Guaranteed Minimum Income Schemes? A system of EU-wide regulations and standards to create a safety net for all citizens, for as long as they need support, no matter in which country or region they live, and under what government. They would guarantee decent wages and sufficient benefits, protect people during unemployment, illness or disability, help them get education and find a new job. They would help make social protection systems actually work.
The idea of creating EU Guaranteed Minimum Income Schemes has been discussed for years and it is finally getting the attention of decision makers. More and more people want a European social system which is just and fair.
This petition was launched on our YouMove platform, by people who dream about Europe without poverty. You.wemove.eu is a place where everyone, a private person or an organisation, can start their petition for a better Europe. Some of the fights might be small or local, and some touch on the very basics values of the European Community. Help us make big dreams come true!

PS. Difficult moments in life: they happen to all of us, right? Our partner loses their job and one salary is not enough to pay the rent. Our parents get very ill and need to be taken care of... One day, we’ll all be protected. Sign the petition
