There are currently many
bottlenecks delaying COVID-19 vaccine rollouts,
says UNICEF COVAX coordinator Benjamin
Schreiber, as World Health Organization
Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus
raises concerns that inequitable and slow
vaccine distribution will give the virus time to
mutate into vaccine-resistant forms, hampering
the global push to end the pandemic. Many poor
countries yet to receive doses of the vaccine
have begun seeking supplies on their own, which
experts warn could undermine the COVAX
program. Full Story: Voice of America

physical harm and deprives women and girls of
their rights, and lawmakers in the country must
take action to ban it, United Nations Population
Fund representative Anders Thomsen said as the
world marked International Day of Zero Tolerance
for Female Genital Mutilation on Saturday. UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres echoed the
call, urging authorities around the world to
work toward ending FGM. Full Story: Anadolu Agency (Turkey)

The threat posed by climate
change exceeds that of the ongoing pandemic and
must be addressed to avert mortality rates
equivalent to those of the pandemic occurring
annually, says United Nations climate action and
finance envoy Mark Carney. Governments must
increase the amount of pandemic recovery plans
directed toward sustainability and reducing
carbon emissions, Carney says. Full Story: BBC (free registration) (2/6)
