“Clean Up Georgia” Project (Phase III)



Meeting in Sagarejo Municipality



On 13 December 2016, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” arranged
a meeting in Sagarejo Municipality with the participation of the
municipality’s Administrator (Gamgebeli), representatives of its
Administration (Gamgeoba), administrative units, non-for profit juridical
persons and others.



During Meeting, the following issues were discussed: waste management in
Georgia, legal requirements; international obligations and European
experience; waste management planning; assessment of the impact of illegal
landfills on the state of adjacent territories and on population health. The
interest among the participants towards the meetings was high, which once
more proves that the demand of the society is to live in clean environment
and actively participate in the activities directed at the solution of
problems connected with waste.



The project “Clean Up Georgia”  is being carried out by a consortium of
NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, “Greens Movement of
Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia” and “Raising of Ecological Awareness
and Waste Management” with the financial support of the Government of
Sweden, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural
Resources Protection of Georgia, in cooperation with the Ltd “Solid Waste
Management Company of Georgia”.
