CENN ‘Green Holidays’ Start in
Bulachauri
On 27 June, summer camps are to begin in CENN’s
Bulachauri Green Centre for
senior students from public and private schools
all over Georgia (including
Abkhazia). The first wave of school students
will include 25 participants.
During the ten-day camps, students
will attend lectures in ecology, forestry
and natural resource management,
environmental monitoring, integrated waste
management, and responsible
mining. Students will also undergo courses in
journalism, writing
documentary and fictional pieces, photography, and
hiking safety and
planning. Throughout the camps, experts will challenge the
schoolchildren to
consider the meaning of peace, tolerance, freedom of
expression, gender, and
violence. As well as theoretical courses, camp-goers
will be occupied with
practical training courses on forestry topics, such
as, setting up
nurseries, grafting, and planting. The agenda also includes
field trips and
a two-day hike.
Participants will be supplied with books,
brochures, posters, guidebooks,
t-shirts, movies and
presentations.
As well as CENN’s working group, and independent
experts, representatives of
the Ministry of Environment and Natural
Resources Protection and the
National Forestry Agency of Georgia, as well as
the Ministry of Education
and Culture of Abkhazia will take part in the
trainings.
There will be a focus on environmental monitoring with
new technologies i.e.
smartphone apps and e-maps. Winners of the Niko
Ketskhoveli prize and the
Photo Synthesis 2016 photography competition will
attend the first camps.
These competitions have been run by CENN for the
past three years, in
partnership with the Ministry of Environment and
Natural Resources
Protection and the Ministry of Education and
Science.
Camp participants will undergo preparation to become
trainers, and will be
able to perform as CENN’s local representatives and
media-reporters.
CENN’s summer camps will continue throughout the
summer, until the new
school year begins. More than a hundred schools are to
take part. Most
aspects of the camp’s programme will also be presented to
participants of
the Anaklia Future Camp.
The summer camps are
carried out within the framework of the project
“Sustainable Forest
Management, Phase 2”, implemented by CENN with the
financial support of
Austrian Development Cooperation.
