What happens when a scientist, a policymaker, an Indigenous knowledge holder, and a forest practitioner sit down together, not for another round of presentations, but for an open, honest conversation about different knowledge systems can be bridged to strengthen biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management?
 
 
That’s exactly what our upcoming SUPERB<https://forest-restoration.eu/>/ TRANSFORMIT<https://transformforests.eu/> webinar Beyond Boundaries: Linking Science, Policy, and Practice in Forest Knowledge Systems aims to explore. Over 1.5–2 hours, participants from across Europe (and beyond) will join forces to tackle a challenge close to EFI’s heart: how to better connect, communicate, and apply knowledge on forests and biodiversity in a changing climate. Our newly launched Forest Knowledge Gateway<https://forestknowledge.eu/> will also be presented.
 
We will discuss these key questions:

💚 About SUPERB: SUPERB<https://forest-restoration.eu/> (Systemic solutions for upscaling of urgent ecosystem restoration for forest-related biodiversityand ecosystem services) is one of the biggest ever EU-funded forest-focused projects (2021-2025, 20Mio. € EU-funding) with the overall goal to create an enabling environment for large-scale forest restoration across Europe. By combining scientific research with practical knowledge and considering broad societal interests, SUPERB is driving large-scale forest restoration while addressing climate adaptation. The project features 12 practical demonstration sites in different European regions, tackling diverse environmental challenges and restoration needs. Collaborating with diverse stakeholders, SUPERB promotes best practices and innovative solutions to protect as well as sustainably manage forests, enhance biodiversity, and ensure the provision of ecosystem services for both, nature and people.
 
 
💚 About TRANSFORMIT: TRANSFORMIT<https://transformforests.eu/> (Transforming Forest Management for multiple ecosystem services and nature conservation via the Integrative approach) aims to merge societal demands with biodiversity conservation through an integrative approach. To achieve this, the project expands on existing practical and scientific knowledge related to Integrative Forest Management (IFM) and fosters synergetic collaborations through seven Living Labs. Connecting 16 institutions from 12 different countries, and coordinated by the European Forest Institute, TRANSFORMIT’s serves as catalyst for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and collaboration among forest managers, researchers, policymakers, and local communities.

ABOUT THE EVENT
 
 
 
As the Paris Agreement marks its 10th anniversary, this session explores its impact on climate change mitigation action and policies.   
 
Drawing on insights from a novel global OECD survey of policymakers and non-governmental experts, this session will highlight how the Agreement has shaped national mitigation policies, the barriers that continue to hinder implementation and the policy priorities moving forward. 
 
The OECD will present key findings from the survey, presented in the recently published report “The Paris Agreement at Ten Years: Expert Views on Progress and Challenges for Climate Change Mitigation”. A panel of experts and stakeholders will then reflect on progress made, remaining gaps and next steps to highlight how climate action can evolve to meet the urgency of the climate crisis.

In 2024, We Mean Business Coalition (WMBC) launched a Business Call to
Action for Ambitious and Investible NDCs. The NDCs Call to Action
emphasised that emissions reduction targets for 2035 alone are not enough –
what matters for business is the translation of targets into clear and
consistent plans and policies to drive investment into clean energy
solutions and restoring nature.
 

 
This year, building on the original NDCs Call to Action, WMBC has worked
with in-country partners to develop country-specific versions of the NDCs
Call to Action, outlining what businesses in each country want to see in
their country’s 2035 NDC and what they need from governments to deliver the
new NDCs.
