At an extraordinary meeting on
16 March, the Committee of Ministers decided, as part of
the procedure initiated under Article 8 of the Council
of Europe Statute, that the Russian Federation would
cease to be a member of the Council of Europe as of
today, 26 years after its
accession.

Ukraine: Council approves
rapid release of cohesion resources to help
refugees
The Council approved on 16
March a legislative proposal that will mobilise cohesion
policy funds to assist refugees fleeing Russia's
military aggression. The measure will also reinforce
member states' ongoing efforts to address the widespread
impact of the COVID-19
pandemic.

Fourth package of EU
sectoral and individual measures
On
15 March, following the informal meeting of EU heads of
state and government on 10 and 11 March, the Council
decided to impose a fourth package of economic and
individual sanctions regarding Russia's military
aggression against
Ukraine.
