Members of the United Nations
Security Council this week unanimously called
for increased protections for schools, and end
to attacks targeting educational facilities and
accountability for parties attacking teachers or
students. UN data shows that approximately
11,000 attacks on education were carried out

Thousands of refugees on the
Greek island of Lesbos have been sleeping on the
streets since fires destroyed the Moria refugee
camp they had called home. The Office of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
has offered assistance to refugees in the region
as well as Greek authorities, and leaders in
France and Germany are working on a plan to
relocate some of the displaced camp residents in

Houthi rebels in Yemen recruited
34 teenage girls to work as spies, guards,
medics or to recruit other children and 12 of
the girls were reportedly sexually abused or
forced into marriage, according to a report
commissioned by the United Nations Human Rights
Council. "The international community has a
responsibility to put an end to this pandemic of
impunity, and should not turn a blind eye to the
gross violations that have been committed in
Yemen," says Kamel Jendoubi, chair of the expert

Governments around the world have
not met 2020 goals on protecting plant and
wildlife biodiversity, and the loss of important
habitats remains "worryingly high," according to
a draft report from the United Nations
Convention on Biological Diversity. Reversing
the negative trends will require "a reinvention
of the ways in which we collectively produce,

President of Afghanistan, which killed dozens of
