One million species are on the verge of extinction. We need European leaders who'll take ambitious climate action. Can you strengthen our fight for a climate commissioner who’ll deliver? |
Hi,
Cheetahs, blue whales and orangutans are vulnerable or dying out. There are only thousands of these remarkable animals left. The extinction crisis is real
A UN report says one million animal and plant species are on the verge of extinction. [1] If we don’t act to stop climate change, our grandkids will only know these creatures from history books.
Now that the European election is over, the candidate for Climate Action and Energy Commissioner will be announced any day now. We need to be ready to fight tooth and nail to ensure no climate skeptics or oil industry buddies get the job. Instead, we need to make sure bold action against climate change is taken.
Can you make a small regular donation to WeMove.EU? It will give us the confidence to invest day-to-day and week-to-week in fast-moving actions like this to fight for climate protection – so we can hand down a world of wonder and beauty to our grandchildren.

Europe’s progress on climate change has been held back before by the election of less than desirable leaders. In 2014, a Spanish oil baron, Arias Cañete was appointed as the EU Commissioner for Climate and Energy.
Before this, Cañete had greenlighted drilling for oil in the clean, beautiful waters of the Canary Islands. As Commissioner, he rolled out the red carpet for dirty fossil fuel industries, in his first months in office meeting with them 7 times more than with public interest groups. [2]
This time round, we should not repeat the same story. It’s vital someone truly committed to tackling climate change gets the job. Otherwise, we can say goodbye to our biodiversity and nature. Can you chip in to fund the fight?

How can we influence this decision? The complex systems involving the European Parliament, Commission and Council can be confusing and opaque.
But with the financial help of our regular donors, as soon as the candidates for Europe’s new commissioners are announced, WeMove.EU will work with a network of EU partners and experts to identify those who are climate skeptics or who have ties with dirty fossil fuel industries. Then, we’ll launch a hard-hitting action plan for millions of us to reject controversial candidates and influence those who would be our leaders.
Let’s protect the things we love, together. Can you help us unlock the power of people across Europe by chipping in a regular donation?
