“Clean Up Georgia” Project (Phase III)



Meeting in Dmanisi Municipality


On 20 April 2016, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” arranged a
meeting in Dmanisi Municipality with the participation of administration
representatives (Gamgeoba), Assembly (Sakrebulo) of Ipnari, Karabulakhi,
Dmanisi town municipalities and other administrative units.



During the Meeting, following issues were discussed: waste management in
Georgia, legal requirements; international obligations and European
experience; waste management planning; assessment of the impact of illegal
landfills on the state of adjacent territories and on population health. The
interest among the participants towards the meetings was high which once
more proves that the demand of the society is to live in clean environment
and actively participate in the actions directed at the solution of problems
connected with wastes.



The project “Clean Up Georgia” (Phase III) is being carried out by a
consortium of NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, “Greens
Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia” and “Raising of Ecological
Awareness and Waste Management” with the financial support of the Government
of Sweden, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural
Resources Protection of Georgia, in cooperation with the Ltd “Solid Waste
Management Company of Georgia”.
