We’re so close to getting strict new EU anti-plastic rules that make corporations pay for the damage they cause. It could happen in days – can you chip in to buy a high-profile ad aimed at influential government ministers? There’s only 17 days left until a huge decision on plastic pollution. Will it mean sparkling seas full of life or more drowning in plastic?

Hi,

There’s only 17 days left until a huge decision on plastic pollution. Will it mean sparkling seas full of life or more drowning in plastic?

Strong new European anti-plastics rules are so close – they would make polluting corporations pay for the damage they do to birds, fish, whales – and humans!

But there’s a risk the new rules could end up weak and worthless because the European Council isn’t fully onboard. How can we persuade the European Council? Simple: target Austria because they hold the EU presidency right now.

If enough of us from the WeMove community chip in, we can take out a high-profile ad in Kronen Zeitung, a prominent journal read by many Austrian government ministers. Can you donate to demand Austria take the lead on plastic pollution?

Yes, I can chip in €8
Yes, I can chip in €15
Yes, I can chip in €30
Yes, I’ll surprise you!
I can’t donate

If we can persuade Austria to back strong anti-plastic rules, it could help move the entire Council’s policy – and lead to the win we need for the ocean! Austria currently holds the EU presidency so they are in charge of making agendas, organising negotiations and setting the tone.

When Austrian ministers open their favourite journal we want them to see an ad they can’t miss, demanding they get onboard for clean oceans and beaches. It’s part of getting our message everywhere to shape the debate.

Ministers need to feel the pressure growing, not fading away. We have to move fast if we’re going to book the advertising space – can you help?

We’re so close to a historic victory. It’s the culmination of a long-running campaign for our WeMove community. Hundreds of thousands of us have signed the petition for stronger European anti-plastics rules.

We’ve emailed our MEPs, put massive ads on billboards across Brussels and together, we’ve worked closely with partners to pool our strengths and ensure the best strategy. It worked – the Commission proposed strong new anti-plastics laws and the European Parliament voted to support them.

Now we just need to get the European Council onboard for oceans. We can do it with a hard-hitting ad that targets the government holding the EU presidency – Austria.

Chip in now.

Thanks for moving Europe with us,
Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU
