The virtual workshop on Financing Transboundary Water Cooperation and Basin Development scheduled on 16 -17 December 2020 and organized in cooperation with numerous partners is approaching! Therefore, please kindly find attached the provisional programme of the workshop in English. The French, Spanish and Russian version will soon be made available on the event webpage: https://www.unece.org/index.php?id=55555.
As you can see, the programme contains a high-level opening and closing session, with high-level speakers from the Global Environment Facility, the World Bank, Switzerland, the Netherlands and UNECE. We therefore hope that many of you will participate.

Finally, we would like to kindly share with you the Background study on financing transboundary water cooperation and basin development developed to prepare the workshop. This background study aims to provide a comprehensive overview and typology of sources of funding and financing potentially available for those involved in the management of shared waters and development of transboundary basins. It analyses the key opportunities and challenges related to the financing of transboundary water cooperation and basin development by investigating different financial needs for the development and the maintenance of joint bodies and the development and implementation of transboundary water management projects and identifying potential sources of funding and financing for them.

Dear colleagues,
We would like to invite you to the Virtual workshop on financing transboundary water cooperation and basin development which will be held online on 16-17 December 2020. The workshop will start at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday 16 December 2020 and end at 5.30 pm on Thursday, 17 December 2020.
The Virtual Workshop on financing transboundary water cooperation and basin development will discuss challenges and opportunities related to the financing of transboundary water cooperation and basin development. More specifically, the workshop aims to:
- Provide a platform and facilitate mutual learning to discuss experiences and good practices in mobilizing financial resources for basin cooperation and transboundary water management and development activities
- Analyze the role of the private sector and innovative financial mechanisms in investing in water-related activities at the transboundary level
- Provide a platform for International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and other banks and investors to share information on their functioning and the requirements for countries and RBOs to access their financing
Expected participation to the workshop from different regions of the world will allow to exchange experience from basins.
The workshop will consist of plenary sessions and interactive discussions. Working languages will be English, French, Russian and Spanish.

participer à l’atelier virtuel sur le
financement de la coopération dans le domaine des eaux transfrontières et de la
mise en valeur des bassins
qui se tiendra en ligne les 16 et 17 décembre 2020.
L’atelier débutera à 11h30 le mercredi 16 décembre 2020 et se terminera à 17h30
le jeudi 17 décembre 2020.
L’atelier virtuel sur le financement de la coopération dans le domaine des eaux transfrontières et de la mise en valeur des bassins portera sur les difficultés et les possibilités liées au financement de la coopération dans le domaine des eaux transfrontières et de la mise en valeur des bassins. Plus précisément, l’atelier a pour objectif de :
- Fournir une plateforme et faciliter l’apprentissage mutuel afin de discuter des expériences et des bonnes pratiques en matière de mobilisation des ressources financières pour la coopération dans les bassins et les activités de gestion et de développement des eaux transfrontières.
- Analyser le rôle du secteur privé et des mécanismes financiers innovants dans l’investissement dans les activités liées à l’eau au niveau transfrontière.
- Fournir une plateforme aux institutions financières internationales (IFI) et aux autres banques et investisseurs afin qu’ils partagent des informations sur leur fonctionnement et les conditions d’accès à leur financement pour les pays et les organismes de bassins versants (RBO).
La participation à cet atelier de différentes régions du monde étant attendue, celui-ci sera l’occasion d’un échange d’expériences entre les bassins.
L’atelier comprendra des sessions plénières et des discussions interactives. Les langues de travail seront l’anglais, le français, le russe et l’espagnol.

Приглашаем вас на Виртуальный семинар по финансированию сотрудничества в области трансграничных водных ресурсов и развития бассейнов, который состоится в режиме «онлайн» 16-17 декабря 2020 года. Семинар откроется в 11:30 в среду, 16 декабря 2020 года, и завершится в 17:30 в четверг, 17 декабря 2020 года.
Участники Виртуального семинара по финансированию сотрудничества в области трансграничных водных ресурсов и развития бассейнов обсудят проблемы и возможности, связанные с финансированием сотрудничества в области трансграничных водных ресурсов и развития бассейнов. В частности, семинар направлен на:
- Предоставление платформы и содействие взаимному обучению для обсуждения опыта и передовой практики в области мобилизации финансовых ресурсов для бассейнового сотрудничества и деятельности по управлению трансграничными водными ресурсами и их развитию
- Анализ роли частного сектора и инновационных финансовых механизмов в инвестировании в водохозяйственную деятельность на трансграничном уровне
- Предоставление платформы для международных финансовых учреждений (МФУ), а также других банков инвесторов, предназначенной для обмена информацией об их функционировании и требованиях к странам и РБО для получения доступа к их финансированию
Ожидаемое участие в семинаре представителей из разных регионов мира позволит обменяться опытом, полученным в бассейнах.
Семинар будет состоять из пленарных заседаний и интерактивных дискуссий. Рабочими языками семинара будут английский, французский, русский и испанский.

Nos gustaría invitarles al taller virtual sobre la financiación de la cooperación en materia de aguas transfronterizas y del desarrollo de las cuencas que tendrá lugar en línea los días 16 y 17 de diciembre de 2020. El taller comenzará a las 11.30 horas del miércoles 16 de diciembre y finalizará a las 17.30 horas del jueves 17 de diciembre de 2020.
En el Taller Virtual sobre la financiación de la cooperación en materia de aguas transfronterizas y del desarrollo de las cuencas se debatirá sobre los desafíos y las oportunidades relativas a la financiación de la cooperación en materia de aguas transfronterizas y del desarrollo de las cuencas. Más específicamente, el taller pretende:
- Facilitar el aprendizaje mutuo y servir de plataforma para el debate sobre las experiencias y buenas prácticas relativas a la movilización de los recursos económicos para la cooperación en las cuencas, y para las actividades de desarrollo y de gestión de las aguas transfronterizas.
- Analizar el papel del sector privado y de los mecanismos financieros innovadores en la inversión en las actividades relativas al agua en el nivel transfronterizo.
- Servir de plataforma para que las Instituciones Financieras Internacionales (IFI) y otros bancos e inversores compartan información sobre su funcionamiento y sobre los requisitos existentes para que los países y los organismos de cuencas accedan a su financiación.
En el taller se espera una participación procedente de diferentes regiones del mundo que permitirá el intercambio de experiencia de las cuencas.
El taller consistirá en sesiones plenarias y debates interactivos. Los idiomas de trabajo serán el español, el francés, el inglés, y el ruso.
Se adjunta la nota conceptual del taller.
