20 Years of Power Blackout is Over in Tchartala



On May 17 Akhmeta Municiplity hosted a presentation of Tchartala Village
Electricity Transmission Line and Local Distribution Network Rehabilitation
Project. Today, all 17 households of the village of Tchartala are supplied
with electricity.



The project was completed by NATELI II supported by USAID and implemented by
Winrock International Georgia.



Chartala village (in Akhmeta Municipality) was one of four off-grid
communities selected from the list of 48 off-grid villages. It used to be
supplied with electricity from the national grid until the 1990’s, when in
the early 90’s the electricity transmission line was robbed. The village has
not been provided with electricity for over 20 years. Before the NATELI II
intervention the village’s inner 0,4 kV electricity transmission lines,
transformer point, and 10 kV electricity transmission line leading to the
village were totally destroyed.



Construction work for Tchartala Electricity Transmission Line and Local
Distribution Network Rehabilitation Project commenced in autumn 2012. NATELI
II constructed a 3400 m length 10 kV electricity transmission line to
Shakhvetila village and an inner 0,4 kV electricity transmission line
approximately 1500 m long.



Guests of the event visited Tchartala village and talked to local
population.
