Hello.

I have just subscribed to the Entombed Discussion Group.

I just wanted to say Hi to everyone.
Well, I have a question.
Does anyone on here have old entombed alpha versions? I remember
playing those back in 2009 and would like them.
My first version was 9.4.
Does anyone have any of these versions above 9.4, before it, or the
version?
I am interested in getting my hands on these old versions. Well, i'm
glad I joined this group.
I've been reading it for a while, but didn't know how to join until
recently.
Well, hope to hear from you guys soon.

Most of the old alphas and betas handled only 3 or 7 levels. As I recall, alpha 7 did go to level 10 or 14 or something like that, but it was very buggy. Installing it will also be extraordinarily difficult, having to uninstall some .Net frameworks, XNA frameworks, and the current Entombed, before the old version can be installed. And if you have other programs that rely on those frameworks, you could break them in the process. In short, I wouldn't recommend it, as it's not worth all the problems that could be caused for one old, error-prone game.

Hi.
Hmmm. Why would I have to uninstall frameworks and stuff? I found the
betas 1.46 and 1.4 but they're the ones i had before the Release
candidates. They worked fine. All i had to do was put my current
entombed saves folder somewhere else and just make another folder but
it ran perfectly fine.
I'm looking for those versions before skeletons were introduced,
zombies could be healed, etc.
Somewhere I heard there was an entombed version where you started with
the human drunkard as your companion instead of your pet? Is this true
and does anyone have it?
Thanks, I've been looking for these to play again.
Oh, and I remember when you only rescued 1 char, that was alpha 9.4,
the first version i ever played.

Hi. I also would be interested in the old alpha's. What is your idea
allen?

Jason Symes

Most of the alphas used and required a beta version of the frameworks, and
if you installed the full releases of the various frameworks, it would break
the alphas (alpha 7 requires .Net Framework 3.0 beta for instance, and if
you installed the full release of .Net 3.0 Entombed alpha 7 broke). Of
course, uninstalling the full versions of the frameworks and installing an
old alpha with a beta version of the frameworks could possibly break other
software that used the full frameworks and wasn't designed to use the beta
frameworks.

Yes, the drunkard was alpha 3, which I've been looking to see if anybody had
as well. I came onboard with Entombed during alpha 7, and actually still
have several of those old alphas and betas, at least the final bug-fixed
version of the series (I.E. alphas 7, 8d, 9.5, betas 1.4, 1.46, 2.42, 2.52,
and the full releases of 1, 1.0.1, 1.02i, 1.02k, and 1.05b).

I actually had alpha 7 installed on an older, backup machine a few months
back, and did I have fun getting my guys' feet hacked off and replaced with
enemy hands. But that machine had no other software that relied on .Net 3.0,
so I was able to uninstall those full releases and put on that Entombed
alpha and got it working. Unfortunately, that machine is now in computer
heaven. I probably could try putting alpha 7 on the machine I now have as my
backup unit, since I built a new on, but I don't have the energy to tinker
around with uninstalling frameworks at the moment.

versions you do have?

Jason Symes

Ok, here's a zip containing all of the alphas and betas I have:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/pume9o
Be aware, some of these setups are upgrade only installers. If you want to
install beta 1.46, you must install beta 1.42 first. If you wish to install
beta 2.52, you must install 2.42 first. Otherwise, the alphas are all
stand-alone, no need to install one to upgrade to the other version.

And of course, if anybody has alpha 3, I'd be glad to take a copy off your
hands to add to my collection.

Thank you Alan. I can't thank you enough. Alpha 3 huh? Yes, I'm
interested in that as well.
If anyone has any entombed versions, be it alphas, betas etc feel free
to post here. I want to collect these and play them because sometimes
I think the current version of entombed is just too long.
Anyway, thank you for these.

Woops sorry about that Jason.

For some reason I thought it was Alan.
Anyway, thanks again for those alphas.
I noticed that alpha 7 wasn't working correctly, but I like alpha 9.5
and 8.
I was playing 8 and apparently you only had 1 job and 2 races goblin
and human? Oh, and i also found a poison club just lying on the floor
haha. Why was all that stuff removed or disabled in the full game?
It sometimes makes me sad.
Also, what happened to worges? They're gone from the full version too.

Yeah, alpha 7 used a beta version of .Net 3.0, and it breaks otherwise. If
you have a spare machine, you could always try uninstalling all .Net, then
install alpha 7, which will install the beta .Net 3.0. But this can cause so
much trouble with any other software that might require .Net that I strongly
don't recommend it, especially if alphas 8d and 9.5 work without tinkering.

hi every one, can some one please offer a explanation as to what is
happening here?
I have started a new game and on level six. all good. got some previous
items a few scrolls a few frozen geldersteeth shields and a few intelligence
shields. amongst other things with me.
I have completed 3 quests so far, and in all 3 quests
i got some unidentified potions and like 5 unidentified
scrolls. so i whent to the store to try and identify the five unidentified
potions. sorry i mean the five unidentified scrolls and the 3 unidentified
potions. and guess what. to my horror the store said that |i got nothing
that needs to be identified! I thought ok ok ok, don't panic. mechanic.
let us hop on over to the cobalt emporium. surely there I CAN get my stuff
identified. right? wrong!!
it also told me there no go. there is nothing that needs to be identified.
so I almost got a double heart attack right there.
and so I whent to the backup plan, that's plan see. for those who are
counting. and this 1 was sure to work. nothing could go wrong here, its
bullet prufe! this time I am going to immerge the strong one! hihahahaha!
for you see, I kept my trump card for last. iI have a few thousand trusty
level eight
identified scrolls with me that never let me down before, it always use to
identified anything.
and so. I when to it.
I whent to the scrolls. i used it yess I sure did. yess suh. id really
tried.
and guess what it doltd me. i tried 3 of them in a row on different
unidentified potions/scrolls
and it said. that there are no available targets!!!
so pleas any one if you can explain this to a poor befuddled sole such as
myself help me to get out of my miseries.

Welll if they are in a stack, eg are described as one item as "3
unidentified scrolls" then it might be worth a try, sinse once you've used
one by it's effect you can probably tell what the others are.

If however they are single scrolls then your stuck.

as to potions, that is a little trickier sinse you might drink one, and it
has no effect sinse you've just drunk a cure poison potion without being
poisoned or similar, still it's worth a try.

This bug only happens with stuff you get as quest rewards, not with stuff
you find in the dungeon.

That is very crazy indeed.

Where in your inventory did you look? If they are unidentified weapons they
may not show up in the weapons catagory, so you might be better looking on
the main list.

Btw, 3 legendary unidentified weapons? wow! I don't believe it, unlocking
actually got something good for once!

Mmmm, you do remember this book is being written by someone called dark? :D.

Well i hope it'll help. There is no denying that entombed is still in many
ways a hard game. Some of it's difficulty is to do with one or two balancing
points that could possibly be addressed in a future revision, but a lot more
is simply that it requires strategical thinking and a good knolidge of the
various skills, jobs, and other factors involved.

That's where I hope the handbook will at least be helpful.

Hi, regarding the scrolls and potions and them not being and being
identifyed, that's happened to me many times before.

When I find them, if they're worth $2 or something small like that I just
sell them at the general store, likewise if they're worth $20 or more I keep
them and just try them on an enemy if they're a scroll and on my chars if
they're potions. I tried using an unidentifyed scroll on one of my chars
before and it turned out to be a fire scroll, it nearly killed the char I
tried it out on, so I've never tried using one of those scrolls on my chars
ever again.

Also, I'm currently on level 4 and trying to complete my first quest which
is to kill a ratking and his group [a group of 4 including the ratking I'm
after], only thing is, I've tried it four times already and in those four
times have only been able to kill one or two at most before my main char or
both of them get killed. Once my second char got charmed and went over to
their side so I quit the game and another time my pet wolf got charmed and
went over to their side so I quit that as well.

What I'd like to know is, why is it when you press 8 to aim at an enemy
chars head and press enter to fire ice blast as it might be, why is it that
most of them times the ice blast hit's the enemy char in the foot, leg, arm
but never in the head and also, my char has ice blast at 4/5, but when he
hit's one of the four enemy char in my quest in the head, he does 20 to 30
points damage but the enemy char never dies, only get slightly injured or
major injury, but never dead? With any other char I use ice blast on and get
that rate of damage, they're pulverized?

um hi, maybe you do know this but just a hint from a furry creature such as
myself. remember to put on the num lock before you start your gtame.
I just had to fight a drake twice because my game crashed again when saving
it. so I did see it actually works. if you press eight when hitting enter.
but to kill the drake you need unholey lite scroles and web scroles, thats
the only scroles u wil ned to kill her/him.
bgut the next time this game crashes I wil be sure to post detailed message

I just don't understand why it crashes upon saving. for some reason the
problem seems to be lying in the world file.

Try deleting the world file, or at least copying it somewhere else then
saving again, sinse the game will create a new file upon you saving and
hopefully should therefore not crash.

As to the drake, actually just about any scroll that will reduce the chance
of it attacking you is valuable in that fight. jason had to up the
resistance to charm, sleep and paralize, sinse people were just using those
and getting through far too easily, ---- though I think paralize can
sometimes still work if your lucky, But anything that reduces the drake's
attack power or chance to hit you will help. Curse is fantastic to use,
minimizing the drake's damage while upping the damage it takes. Slow and
shrink are usually good to use too, particularly sinse I believe from what
i've seen the damage of breathe fire is directly linked to size. Confusion
is also helpful, sinse the drake will miss more often and sometimes even hit
itself, pluss confusion nearly always works.
Of course any techniques or spells that have the possibility of putting the
drake out of action temporarily are good to use as well, I once for instance
defeated the drake by playing an ogre brawler and constantly using bash to
knock the drake down so that on it's turn the drake kept having to stand up
(though this only works with an ogre sized character).
Conversely, of course you want to use anything that will help your party
such as haste, regenerate, focus etc.

Mainly though that should be your stratogy in the drake fight, trying to
stop the drake from damaging you while you chip away at it's health and
hefty armour, rather than looking for ways to hurt the drake.

Even the most successful damage stratogy I've found, a necro with level 5
iceblast in the head, or an assassin equipped with hard weapons doing a
sneak with crytical hits will take some time to ware the drake down, which
is why things like regeneration, heal, haste, and using the tactical hide
option can be so helpful in that fight, as well as trying to keep the drake
from acting as much as possible.

nope.
i tried that, I keep a backup copppy of the file but a few levels later or
sometimes in the same level it does the same thing rendering the current
world file that it uses useless and corrupted. but I assure you the nex time
it happens I wil explain exactly what happens and each time for that
spesofic game there after you wil no about it.
I do find it strange though
