Subject: RE: [Entombed] Hi guys here is an error message I recieved from a
friend today.

One thing I can suggest right off the bat is he needs to upgrade to 1.02k,
at the least. On the Driftwood's download page, it can be found as the
upgrade link. The link says it's 1.02i, but it's 1.02k. Just have him
install that over top his 1.02j, and that bug may go away.

Also, if he feels like trying out the test client, the link is:
http://www.blind-games.com/newentombed/EntombedSetup.exe
The test client does have some issues installing some of the prerequisit
components, so we'd be more than happy to help out if he has issues. hth

Ok,

I installed the newest update, and now the program won’t’ open.  What was the work around for this?  I’ve tried uninstalling everything related to the game, and starting from scratch.  I still cannot get it to open.  Can someone help?

Thanks.

There's a problem with the SQL 3.5. Go into your add/remove programs and uninstall the version that appears (most likley 3.5 SP1). Here's the latest version from Microsoft that this version of Entombed requires:
Extract this to an easily to find folder. You'll have three files in that folder: install.txt, SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi, and SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, install the SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi
followed by the SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi. If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, then just install SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi.

If you're not sure whether your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, there's a couple easy ways of finding out. Bring up Windows Explorer to show the list of files and folders on your computer's c: drive, which is where most people install Windows. If you have both a program files and a program files (X86) folder, you have 64-bit Windows. Also check your Windows folder, if you have a syswow64 subfolder, then you also have a 64-bit version of Windows. Otherwise, if you only have the one program files folder and no syswow64, you're running 32-bit Windows.

Once SQL's installed, the game should fire up correctly. Good luck, and let us know if you continue to have a problem. hth

I should also add that the installer for entombed is a bit dumb in
this reguard.
it will detect if sql is loaded and if not will corectly load the
version you want but it seems to not have the knowledge to detect the
service pack or version only that it is or isn't installed.

Thanks, forgot to mention that. People that've never had any other version
of Entombed or other software that requires the older version of SQL, seem
to install this test version with no trouble at all. It's those of us that
once had 1.02 series versions or other software that installed that older
version that seem to have the problems with this new installer.

Hi all,

I already had this problem a few months ago, asked here but no one could
help me but I'll try again. Because I don't understand what's wrong with my
PC. I followed the steps which were described here what to uninstall and
install but the game doesn't start. I only have the choice to report the
problem to microsoft or not. It makes me really angry. Perhaps someone knows
what I have to do. It were cool to have the newest version because I had the
problem with the chests a few days ago. I was wondering because I had pick
locks set to level 5.

Did you uninstall the old SQL 3.5, then try installing the newer version
that Entombed 1.05b requires? If not, then you can get the new version from
Microsoft at:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5783

When you've downloaded that and run the exe, it will ask you to extract the
files to a location, choose a place you can easily find. Depending on what
version of Windows you have, run the SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi if you have a
32-bit version of Windows, or if you have a 64-bit version of Windows run
SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi followed by SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi.

If you're not sure whether your Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, there's a
couple easy ways of finding out. Bring up Windows Explorer to show the list
of files and folders on your computer's c: drive, which is where most people
install Windows. If you have both a program files and a program files (X86)
folder, you have 64-bit Windows. Also check your Windows folder, if you have
a syswow64 subfolder, then you also have a 64-bit version of Windows.
Otherwise, if you only have the one program files folder and no syswow64,
you're running 32-bit Windows.

That should fix the problem I'd think.

And exactly that is my problem. I did every step you explained. But the
problem exist again. Could it be that it matter because I have a german PC?
Or doesn't matter that?

As far as I recall, plenty of others have successfully loaded this version
on machines from other parts of the world. Perhaps somebody else might have
an idea though.
