Hi,

I just can't seem to make monks work. Their damage output seems kind
of low and they use way too many ability points. I have a few specific
questions, but could anyone offer me some general advice for making
them playable as well please?

So my specific questions:-
What precisely does the combo skill do and how do you use it? Even
with a couple of points in it and when you're focussed it doesn't seem
to be in the skills options menu.
Similar to the combo question, does the 'throw enemy' skill work from
'Take Down' or am I missing something (I can't find that one in the
options either)?
Thirdly, is 'Break Limb' targetable?
Finally, does training the 'Unarmed' skill make much difference? I
mean, surely you'll never outdamage an axe-wielding mainiac will you?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Questions are answered below:

I just can't seem to make monks work. Their damage output seems kind
of low and they use way too many ability points. I have a few specific
questions, but could anyone offer me some general advice for making
them playable as well please?

So my specific questions:-
What precisely does the combo skill do and how do you use it? Even
with a couple of points in it and when you're focussed it doesn't seem
to be in the skills options menu.
*I was baffled by this as well, but Combo actually makes your hand to hand
hit 4 or so times instead of just 2. I've not played monk in a while, so it
might even be more, I don't remember.

Similar to the combo question, does the 'throw enemy' skill work from
'Take Down' or am I missing something (I can't find that one in the
options either)?
*IDK never used it. But I'd guess you have to focus first then do some other
stuff.

Thirdly, is 'Break Limb' targetable?
*no

Finally, does training the 'Unarmed' skill make much difference? I
mean, surely you'll never outdamage an axe-wielding mainiac will you?
*Er you haven't played a monk... If you had the best axes in the game
coupled with an ogre, and you have all kinds of accuracy boosts, axes do hit
harder. But for a nice cheep fast and strong deal, monks take the pries. If
you come out with a sneak attack with a maxed monk, you have 4+ attacks
that are hitting 80s+... That's better than most axe attacks. I would take a
half ork monk assassin over an ogre fighter any day... (Although they work
together, so it's best to get an ogre brawler with an assassin so you can
use grapple and assassinate.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I haven't played the monk loads , but they can be good if you have a strong
character and have a few skill points to put into them. I believe they
are meant to be more of a hand to hand martial arts kind of fighter which
is what the combo skill does it allows them to fight with fists and feet
allowing up to 4 hits per attack but this is an automatic thing and random
but the higher the skill points the more likely (when maxed I'm pretty sure
its more often than not).so then if you combine the combo skill put points
into increasing unarmed and also iron skin )which I believe makes their
hits more damaging) and if they get all 4 hits in they can be quite damaging
especially if you combine with a class with critical hit (if you have
enough skill points for this to)

Break limb can't be targeted but if you get their neck its instant death for
them but I found more often than not it got something fairly unhelpful like
a foot! So I personally don't really use the skill much.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, that was really useful. I'll give the humble monk another
whirl.

Nope, but you can have a monk assassin half ork and a fighter ogre brawler.

Hello,
I'm currently running the dungeon with a monk assassin half ork, ogre
fighter brawler and mage necromancer goblin. Every one of my chars does a 1
hit KO on everything on the 24th floor. I usually aim for the head or torso,
so that makes a difference. I do hit 90% of the time, so that probably helps
:). I've also done every quest up to this point. (BTW does anyone know if
it's possible to do a quest on the 26th floor?) LOL I have a quest on the
26th floor XD.
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

Yep, ogre fighter-brawlers are one of my more favorite combos to play.

Yes, half ork monk assassins are one of my favorite classes. They can become quite wickid. If you get enough strength and speed boosting items, raise combo, iron skin, unarmed, critical hit, and sneak attac, you will pritty much have a killing machine.
One question I do have though is, what if you had a monk fighter and had unarmed and combo maxed? Does that mean that if you used flurry, you could attack more than 10 times?
