Mashup Camp:

It may be February, but Spring is in the air and you know what that
means. Yes, that's right...it's that time of year again -- time for
another round of the great food, partying (we're upping the bar on
live entertainment), hands-on training/hacking, networking,
unconferencing and a contest with awesome prizes that has come to be
known as Mashup Camp. After venturing across the Atlantic to Dublin
for our first European edition (and a lot of Guinness beer), Mashup
Camp is returning to the Computer History Museum (where it all started
back in February 2006). We're already hard at work to make sure that
this edition of Mashup Camp (March 17-20, 2008) is better than ever.
Not only will I and the rest of the Mashup Camp gang be back to lead
another great unconference, we'll be kicking things off with a two-day
crash course (the Mashup University part) on mashup development using
the latest APIs and tools. As always, Mashup University will start
with an introduction to mashup development. This year, we've enlisted
the services of Raymond Yee, a lecturer at University of California in
Berkeley's School of Information and author of Pro Web 2.0 Mashups, to
teach that class.
Oh, and did someone say "party?" Not only will this year's Mashup Camp
have its trademark must-attend after-hours hottest ticket in Silicon
Valley, this year, we've lined up an amazing performance by Favored
Nations recording artist James Robinson . The first time I saw
flamenco guitarist Robinson and his quartet jam, I was awestruck and I
know you will be too when you hear their music.
As always, Mashup Camp will for the most part be an unconference with
a few special signature elements thrown in. One of those elements is
our Best Mashup SpeedGeeking Contest. Whether you've been working on
your mashup for months (or years) or you decide to hack one up right
there at Mashup Camp, you can enter your mashup in our Best Mashup
SpeedGeeking Contest and compete for some great prizes including the
first place prize: one of the hottest developer systems you can get --
an Apple 2.4 Ghz 17" MacBook Pro.
As with our other camps which are decidedly not by invitation-only,
our only restriction on attendees is the amount of space in the
building. In this case, we're limited to approximately 400 attendees
and sign-ups are accepted on a first come first served basis.
Registration for developers involves the extremely nominal fee of $35*
and we'll be posting a list of confirmed attendees on the Who's Coming
page on the Official Mashup Camp Wiki. What? You're a poor starving
developer and $35 is a bit tight for your budget? No problem. Just let
us know and we'll be more than happy to waive the fee.
So, if you're not signed-up already, what are you waiting for? How
about joining us for another great event (as well as some great tunes)
in the heart of Silicon Valley? I'd love to see you there and we're
looking forward to throwing yet another very memorable camp.
Thanks and we're looking forward to seeing you at this, our sixth
Mashup University and Camp.
