America, the Future of Green,

The buzz in the investing community these  days is that the US is the future of Green Business.  Not Europe, not Japan, it's America. Our colleague Karla Bell quotes from the Guardian:

BP has dropped all plans to build wind farms and other renewable schemes in Britain and is instead concentrating the bulk of its $8bn (£5bn) renewables spending program on the US, where government incentives for clean energy projects can provide a convenient tax shelter for oil and gas revenues.

But where will we be in a few months? Marc Stuart, co-founder of EcoSecurities, tells us the speech that he wants Obama to give half a year into his presidency:

When I took office six months ago, I made it clear that my highest priority would be addressing the financial crisis that overcame us in 2008. As you well know, all indicators now point to the beginning of a slow—but hopefully steady—return to a solid growth economy.

Forest Carbon Offsetting Survey

CleanTech is proud to partner with EcoSecurities to conduct the Forest Carbon Offsetting Survey. The results of which will be published and freely available towards the end of March 2009. Our contributions will be acknowledged!

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

The Hub Lab Seeks Revolutionary New Energy Science
by Neal Dikeman
This month, we interview the very man that writes our A Moment in History column below.

Dikeman: What is the Hub Lab all about?

Beardsworth: Hub Lab's express purpose is to find and support very early stage - revolutionary - energy science and technology that has the potential to make a huge game-changing difference. It is motivated by a strong belief that the planet is headed for serious trouble, and that we need to look for dramatic and wholesale changes in ways to meet rapidly growing worldwide demand for energy and resources.  More >

A Moment in History (Feb 2002):
Photolytic Hydrogen from Sunlight

by Edward Beardsworth, UFTO Notes
The Utility Federal Technology Opportunities (UFTO) Notes were originally published for a multi-client group of utility power companies between 1994 and 2005. Freely available today, they provide historical insight into the development of the energy sector.

Researchers have been working on a process that uses sunlight to produce hydrogen by splitting water directly. To understand photoelectrolysis, think of a PV cell underwater, where the electrochemical energy produced is immediately used to electrolyze water, instead of creating a current.  More >

Be sure to research the UFTO notes before you begin your venture!
