Stimulus for Renewables and Energy Efficiency

The US federal government is prepared to increase support for renewable energy and energy efficiency. Karla Bell  from the GHG Blog says:

The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009, an economic stimulus package with tax and spending provisions totaling nearly $800 billion, was signed into law on February 17. The act contains a number of tax provisions that provide significant value to companies and individuals that are focused on producing renewable energy or reducing energy use through efficiency.

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

An Open Letter to Fred Krupp
by Marc Stuart
Fred Krupp is President of Environment Defense Fund. Marc Stuart, co-founder of EcoSecurities, responds to comments Mr. Krupp had made about CDM.

Krupp (Wall Street Journal B: The Clean Development Mechanism [the offset part of the Kyoto Protocol], which provides about 95% of the offsets used in the European market, is clearly broken and should be quickly phased out.

Stuart: My first reaction to reading that parting statement in what was otherwise a very rational and cogent interview was unprintable in a family blog like this. First of all, let’s get a few things straight. When it comes to protecting the environment and harnessing market forces to that end, Fred Krupp is a god. Maybe I should even capitalize that description.   More >

A Moment in History (Feb 2003):
Bipolar NiMHydride Battery

by Edward Beardsworth, UFTO Notes
The Utility Federal Technology Opportunities (UFTO) Notes were originally published for a multi-client group of utility power companies between 1994 and 2005. Freely available today, they provide historical insight into the development of the energy sector.

Electro Energy, Inc. (EEI) has developed a new type of rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (BP Ni-MH) battery using a bipolar configuration.  A combination of unique materials,  design, and production process make possible a lower cost technology, which out-performs present commercial nickel-metal hydride and lithium polymer batteries.  More >

Be sure to research the UFTO notes before you begin your venture!
