Hi there,

just tried running the version 1.9.18 CD and my usb keyboard and mouse
weren't detected- had an old ps2 keyboard lying around so I got
through the boot process but only to find that my mouse didn't work
once the desktop loaded. Tried editing xorg.conf- no joy, I guess it's
a usb drivers issue? Looks nice though by the way!

Hello
Did they work in the previous version of Elive?
Would u please try to unplug then plug them back?
also see if you can post us the result of the tty12 console (ctrl-alt-
F12)
or even just the dmesg ones
Thanks

Hi,

I haven't tried elive for over a year now, I don't remember ever
having this problem before.
It's possible I was using a ps2 mouse & keyboard last time.

I'll try what you suggested and post the results here if I can!

OK,

tried unplugging them and no joy.
tty12 console showed nothing but a blinking cursor.
lsusb came back with one entry - usb 2.0 root hub

lsmod showed usbcore as loaded.

Tried "modprobe -r usbcore" to try reloading it but it said "in use"
and would unload it.

dmesg (can't remember the syntax to get the tail entries)

there was one repeated message which read something like this:

CFI: found no ck804xrom @ fff5000 device at location zero
JEDEC: found no ck804xrom @ fff5000 device at location zero

Don't know if that's relevant or not? Everything else looked ok.

It's odd because everything else works fine- graphics card works with
the auto loaded nvidia-new, sound card is fine (audigy 4)

Hope this helps!

Hi EliveDevelopers,

i am using elive from liveCD since version 1.2.5 or so, and it was
always a big fun.
With the recent versions I can no more connect to network nor
internet. I don't know why.

I am using a DELL Latitude C540 laptop and an Apple MacMini and a n
old noname K6/300 PC for download and CD-iso-burn and test run, but
elive won't even boot here.

That's my actual experience. Sorry

Tried Elive 1.9.18, it seems to boot fine until it tries to configure
my network.
I have a US Robotics 5413 Wireless PCI-Card.
After configuring i get messages about this device not being able to
recalibrate the radio, it tells me possible causes are 'too long
distance' or 'card too hot'
After some error messages (mostly when i try to install nvidia driver
the whole boot process freezes, even 'the skinny elephants' won't get
my machine rebooted so my only option left is a reset.
This cards works out of the box in pardus and works perfectly with
ndiswrapper and the win driver kubuntu, pclinuxos, mandriva and
puppylinux.

Gonna try to boot my machine without the pci device then plug it in
again after installation, see if that changes anything. I'll keep you
informed.

All my wireless problems have been addressed over the last 3 new
releases, sorry to not have a problem to report with 1.9.18 yet,
things are looking better very fast.
I can wait for a perfected 2.0 so take your time.
I have a ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400 on my thinkpad
and have had problems under fglrx, and have had to make adjustments to
video players for playback, when compositing my desktop.
I am aware that this a problem mostly with AMD and not elive, but you
provide a pleasing to look at, professional, clean desktop in a not
composited environment.
Just like to say thanks to all working on and debugging.
Sorry to be off topic.

outcome.

Typing from the 1.9.19 live CD now, all seems to be working out of the
box- well done!

Hello Assasukasse,
my actual job doesn't allow much time for more intensive work with
Elive.
The last version I successfully tested had been elive 1.8.2 Deutsch.
Then there is a gap with no test,- i simply had no time.

Now I tried the actual elive 1.9.18 and I am a bit disappointed.

I start it on DELL Latitude with standard options (UK English, Elive
normal mode),
- no access to NTFS allowed,
- no special mouse driver,
- automatic monitor detection,
- radeon GPL driver (fglrx sometimes causes problems),
- ndiswrapper off
Now elive starts up with its sound. Open Iceweasel browser:
Oh, what a surprise, Google works, the rest of the internet too.

Then I restart with German, Elive normal mode,
- not allowing access to NTFS,
- The window 'Eine Synaptic Maus wurde entdeckt' pops up,
before you can enter Yes or No there are some error messages
shown, but you can enter No for No special mouse.
- Automatic for Monitor Resolution works fine,
- radeon for the Graphics Driver,
- NDISWRAPPER NOt loading
Ok, the Elive sounds, but you can't stop it nor mute.
Open Iceweasel browser: Address not found.

Open a bash for analyzing the problem:
sudo ifconfig shows a incomplete network configuration.

Probably that was the reason. I hope this was a bit of help.

Thanks for your efforts, elive is GREAT!

Tried 1.9.19 with my usr5416 wireless pci card.
Identified by pclinuxos as (lspci -v)
02:01.0 Network controller: Texas Instruments ACX 111 54Mbps Wireless
Interface
Subsystem: Device 010d:16ec
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 22
Memory at feafe000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Memory at feac0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: ndiswrapper

Tried to boot live cd, after some tx errrors (less than with 2.9.18)
and the live system totally freezes after a while.
Booted the live cd without the usr 5416 and all goes fine, elive
installs and after reboot, fine tuning and rebooting again everything
was fine so i tried to boot Elive with the usr5416 card and it works.
The network control center doesn't show any networks and if i try to
configure the control center to use ndiswrapper my system freezes
after about 30secs.

I installed the ndiswrapper driver from commandline and tried again
but i still have the freezes and the card is unusable.

Output from lspci -v:

02:01.0 Network controller: Texas Instruments ACX 111 54Mbps Wireless
Interface
Subsystem: Device 010d:16ec
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 22
Memory at feafe000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Memory at feac0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: acx_pci
Kernel modules: acx

Output from ndiswrapper -l

usr11g : driver installed
device (104C:9066) present (alternate driver: acx)

Now i need to figure out how to get ndiswrapper used instead of acx.

I suggest you try .20 or just wait till we track down the problem
seems a bugs related to the linux driver, ndiswrapper is not really a
clean way to do things so we consider using it only as a last resort.

I suggest you give a look at debian bugs related to your module (acx)
and see if there is something that should be done.
In case you find news please make us know and we will implement it.
Otherwise we have to wait till debian fixes this issue :(
Thanks

Smurflover i think u can try this:
first remove all the acx firmware packages (with apt-cache search acx
u will have a good list), then put these in /lib/firmwares dir:
http://acx100.sourceforge.net/wiki/Firmware
please report if this solves your problem. if it does, they will be
included in elive by default.
thanks

I don't really see how this can help me cause all the firmware is
there.
Tried ubuntu 8.10 and kubuntu 8.10 (acx modules and firmware are
provided by ubuntu in debian lenny) and both give a complete system
freeze when trying to start kde4 or gnome.

Found multiple interesting threads about the default symlink pointing
to the old driver.
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-75448.html

Gonna try that out and see what it gives.
