This is a strange bug. I have Elgg 1.8.3 running on a Ubuntu server. I upload .docx and .xlsx files via the Elgg Files plugin. First thing that threw me off was that the icons to the left of the files would show up as Zip. When I go to Chrome on my Windows 7 machine, I can download and open the file via the appropriate MS application. However, when I use Firefox on the same WIndows machine to download the file, it reports it as a Zip archive and proceeds to open it up from File Explorer as a Zip.

Ok. Good to know. However, I need to implement a fix right away. Is the best course of action to fix it in the Files plugin, or do it in my own plugin? Can I safely override a view or action that handles the setting of the mime type and icon?
