Glade is free but not opensource

Not sure that analog workflow is developed to the same extent as in
our Electric...
But functionality related to EDA formats exchange (LEF,DEF, ...), GUI
concepts and so on may be interesting to compare to currenc state of
Electric

Francesc Serra-Graells has also produced the "Academic PDK" which is sufficient for some very good exploration:

Interesting,
I loaded the mac version, and it wanted access to my contacts and my photos. I’ll check into this further.

The Mac version of Glade asked for access to your contacts and photos? I'm assuming they're not testing on Mac, and that there's some kind of permission setting that is incorrect in the build.
If you run wireshark, is it trying to connect to anything remotely? I think in your case the program "Little Snitch" would tell you: https://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html

I suspect so - I’ll check wireshark in a bit, but yea - the os warned me it wanted my photos and my contacts - so having working in cyber security before - I am wary that may it has a phone-home feature they are building in for future licensing  - or maybe they have malicious code in one fo the libraries they are using (a VERY common vector for adversary code injection).

needless to say - I wouldn’t put any sensitive IP on this just yet.

Looks like it is calling home:

I suspect the QT package they are using to port to the mac is the one at fault. It probably wants access to everything  - which is strange.
