Mustafa, et al - It is so beautiful to read this. Your organizing efforts are incredible, a model for the world. I have travelled far and wide, and this is a powerful example of what people everywhere are facing. If the world knew your story, they would be inspired and come to stand in solidarity with you. I invite this force to be with you now.

Please let the villagers know this: THEY ARE NOT ALONE. Hundreds of thousands of people from every corner of the planet believe in the right of people to live in a good way with this earth. They, like you, understand that it is necessary to come together when the health of our earth, our water, our air and our food are threatened; when the lives our children and our communities are not safe. Of course, we must take a stand. I am amongst the thousands who stand in solidarity with you! I will continue to lend my spirit to your efforts until you and your mountain are safe from harm's way.

Thank you to each of you who are showing up, for your spirit, your dedication, and basic daily actions that mean the world to future generations.

Blessings,

Janell

Sorry in English, but I'm afraid my translation would be a mess!

Dear Friends,

All our efforts are towards stopping gold mining activities that threaten Mount da. This weekend, despite the snow and the difficulties in transportation, we continued our work with strong faith and devotion.

On Saturday, while meeting were going on at the coffee house, Alev alar and zlem Gneri responded to our call, came to our village and organized house meetings with women. They informed them on the negative effects of mining activities, listened to their health problems and formed friendships.

On Sunday we organized an outdoor panel in Muratlar Village with 50 participants from the anakkale Environment Platform. Almost the whole village was there, as well as our friends Bahadr and Ayla from a near by village, Yaar and Sevgi from Biga, Kadir Dadan and Sleyman from Erdek. The mayor of Bayrami and his associate came to support us as well and participated in the rice service. While we ate the rice that was prepared in two coffee houses at the same time, university professors had discussions with the villagers. The event turned into an outdoor panel and it meant a lot for the villagers in their struggle against the mining companies.

The villagers invited everyone to our village for another meeting on January 22.

In the evening, a convoy left the village in order to hand out leaflets at the market in Etili village of an. The villagers participated in the convoy and arrived at the Evciler village. We stopped at every village on the way, in order to inform the villagers and leave hand outs. The panel started after the food service. The participation among the 1800 population of Evciler was really high, as well as from Bayrami and other villages.

We are organizing another panel on January 22 and the villagers are expecting your support again. They need to feel that they are not alone in this struggle. We also need to continue meetings every evening until the Environmental Impact Assessment meeting. Anyone who would like to participate will be hosted at our village.

We can conclude that the villagers against the mining companies in Mount da formed a serious opposition. The village of Muratlar decided not to allow the Environmental Impact Assessment meeting on January 24. More importantly the majority of the villagers supported this decision as a result of all the work. Muratlar will stand against mining on January 24, at 2 pm and the miners will be kicked out of our mountains.
