EFBC-Feline Center: March 2012 Update

The last few months have been exciting! We said goodbye to the 3 Amur
leopard cubs, they are at the San Diego Zoo now. While there we
obtained verbal agreement to house their two 9 month old Malayan
tigers as soon as we finish Project Tiger in a few months! These two
young males are off a wild-born female that was caught as a man-eater.
Several new founder Malayan tigers came into captivity in this fashion
recently, which solves two problems: removing a human threat without
killing the animal, and adding valuable new genes to the captive
breeding program. As soon as the current round of inclement weather is
over the pools will be finished, and with a few more odds and ends
taken care of visitors will be able to view tigers up close soon!

Of course our Twilight Tour visitors can always see tigers up close,
and the first of those for 2012 is coming up fast on April 7. Reserve
your spot in advance by calling 661.356.3793 between 10 am and 4 pm
any day but Wednesday. Tickets are $20 each and you must be 18 or
older.

Other excitement included a wild bobcat visiting our facility. While
probably attracted by our female bobcats, this guy found our peacocks
to be very tasty and we lost several males. Last weekend we finally
trapped him, and he was released up in the mountains behind us. Let's
hope he doesn't come back!
