It is a Tamil festival celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Adi and falls today (Aug 2nd 2012) . The festival pays tribute to water & villagers worship Amman (goddess) deities. It marks annual freshes of the rivers and celebrated near river basins, lakes heralding the onset of Monsoon. Aadi month is considered to be the month for planting new seeds and vegetation With monsoon playing hide-and-seek over several parts of not only India but across the world (even USA is under severe drought) , lets make some ‘extra-special’ prayers so that the sky gods may open up a bit more …
And as always , my MOM made the reminder call today morning to atleast ‘plant a money plant in the balcony in a coca cola bottle’ – another ‘religious’ event in most Indian homes ;-)
We are happy to see the increasing responses to our agri-entrepreneurship training programs. Oflate lot of people come from corporate / professional/ IT industry wanting to seek ‘greener’ careers. Based on the feedback (as most are first time balcony- farmers and first generation entrepreneurs (like me) ), we have extended the program to 2 days (Saturday/Sundays of every month) . The second day we take the group on a field trip to an organic farm close to chennai and also to Koyambedu market – asias largest mandi .
Another star attraction is the ‘FOOD’ –
The entire lunch/snacks for the two-day sessions is prepared by the 'Food Ministry' catering unit of MOP Vaishnava women's college . You will get to taste a variety of delicious , healthy cuisine varieties and also learn how the students run a successful catering unit , while still in college !! As they say 'Proof of the Pudding , is in the Eating'
We also now have a ‘SURPRISE SPEAKER’ of the day …
What if we tell you that at eFarm , the 'Blind Can See' !! They can also 'read emails', 'take notes', 'write word documents' ,'use spreadsheets', and even 'browse the internet' and 'give directions to the sighted'. No this is NOT a 'healing' miracle but a daily occurence at our call centre - Fully run by visually challenged people .
