Hi Everyone,

In large MOOCs, very often participants form nodes of interest or study groups. Use this thread to post information about any eduMOOC study groups.

The OER university initiative is forming an eduMOOC study group to focus on what we learn during this course and how this might inform the planning and implementation of the OER university.

We believe that the MOOCs potentially provide a viable pedagogical model for the OER university network and we plan to use this authentic learning experience to inform our planning processes.

The OERu eduMOOC study group will congregate on this page:

We are about to commence with brainstorming the objectives of our study group.

Cheers
Wayne

Wayne-

Great to see this opportunity for a study group for OERu (OER
University). We will list links to all study groups in the navigation
column of the eduMOOC site (will put this up soon). For those
unfamiliar with the concept of OERu, there are some great graphics to
describe it (and much more) on this page about the first conference
held earlier this year: http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/First_meeting
.

OTHER STUDY GROUPS?
Any and all are encouraged to set up study groups in other areas. If
you announce them in this thread or email me I will make sure that we
put a link for them up at the eduMOOC site.

If you want to start a group, but you don't have a location (or want
advice) of where to host it - I am happy to help. I have a eduMOOC
space reserved at http://wikispaces.com if you would like to use a
wiki. Or, you could create another Google Group. Or... there are
many options for free and open spaces.

Thank you Wayne for your encouragement and starting the formation of
study groups!

As of this minute, 1,911 registered and only three days until our
official start. :-)

Hi-

We have free space at Wikispaces for edumooc http://edumooc.wikispaces.com/.
I have created a sample study/discussion group there for the first
week's topic - Online Learning Today - with some sample questions
http://edumooc.wikispaces.com/Online+Learning+Today . If you would
like to moderate / facilitate this group - OR - if you would like to
create another group at the Wikispaces site, just email Ray!

We will links to all study groups at the edumooc home site.

Thanks!

Wayne, I agree about MOOC being a valuable ICT tool for OERU. I will
be learning how to use MOOC as as attend this EDUMOOC. If students
only knew the STEEP learning curve we educators are taking on to open
up education..... All well worth the effort. :)

I'm interested in New Zealand (or more specifically, Christchurch)
I've created a page on the wiki http://edumooc.wikispaces.com/Local+Networks

In my case, not so much a study group as a cafe conversation.  @McDonalds, Riccarton, Fridays (as they have wifi and they are warm and withstand earthquakes).  Sorry to support an American Multinational.

Derek-

Thanks for the update - I don't think I can make this one ;-) But, it
is grand to know you are doing this!

HI Ray,

Great to see a few study groups taking off and we're looking forward to progressing our learning and applying this to real-world implementations.

We've done a little work on our node page and relevant sub-pages here:

http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/eduMOOC_planning_group

This may trigger ideas for others wanting to set up their own study groups.

Looking forward to an exciting week!

Cheers
Wayne

Hi Ray and All!

This is really exciting.  It's awesome to see so many passionate educators coming together.

There was a thread posted yesterday regarding "leveling up" in eduMOOC, and I wanted to poll your interest regarding setting up an OpenStudy study group for the eduMOOC course.

Our study groups have been called Massively Multi-player Study Groups , and I think our groups are a natural fit for a Massively Open Online Course.  If you'd like to try an example, please see the Mathematics study group at http://openstudy.com/groups/mathematics , or on MIT OCW's Intro CS course on the left hand side here.

Our timeline for having this ready is one week - possibly sooner if there is a lot of interest.

Look forward to your feedback.

Thanks and regards.

I would like to discuss about Instructional design applied to Learning
Objects.

After I started to use MOODLE (LMS) for about 10 years ago with no
success at all I started to use it to individualized learning in a b-
Learning structure using Learning Objects (Wiley). I study LODAS (of
Wiley) and stop in the 4C/ID methodology for about 2 years, and didn't
leave it.

At this moment, with the major success with the activity LESSON of
MOODLE, I feel the need to discuss with others about it.

Anyone interested? Thanks. António

Would anybody like to start a group about online activities in
teaching elementary science teachers? Mostly, I am interested in the
types of teaching ideas to help prospective teachers be prepared to
use Web 2.0 technologies in their upcoming careers.

Jeff & Antonio -
Please include me in eduMOOC study group Learning Objects in
Elementary Science Teaching.
As a (retired) school librarian, helping develop collaborative
projects with classroom teachers is one of my favorite things!
