Calgary restaurant investigated for allegedly overserving Oilers

EDMONTON - The Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission has launched an
investigation into a Calgary restaurant that accused members of the
Oilers of refusing to pay their tab on New Year's Eve.
An anonymous complaint was made to the commission, accusing Osteria de
Medici of serving too much liquor to the players, Global News confirmed.
The team and the owner have since settled their original disagreements
over the New Year's Eve bill, which allegedly amounted to nearly $18,000
between 45 people.

While this restaurant owner was a little questionable, I still wonder
why the Oilers drank up a 5 figure liquor bill. Regardless of the size
of the bill, that is a LOT of booze to consume in one night. They could
have exercised a little better judgment that night.

At an average price of $10 a drink, that'd be almost twenty drinks per
person.

That's a lot of liquor.
I guess someone at the Alberta Liquor Control Board did the
same kind of math we are doing in these newsgroups, and
decided it was worth following up.

I don't always agree with Sharx's criticism of the Oilers, but in this
case it is justified. It seems outrageous that Edmonton taxpayers
subsidize the team to the tune of around 5 million a year, and in return
these twits booze it up to the tune of a five figure liquor bill. Very
inexcusable, imho.
I was listening to the radio the other day, the announcer had a very
good point. The team should have told the restaurant owner 'fine, we'll
pay this bill even though we don't agree with it. We'll even throw in a
good tip for your staff. But, 1) we will never come back here again,
and 2) we will advise all of our colleague NHL teams never to come here
for the same reason.' And that would have been the end of it. Instead,
they now have the privilege of seeing their restaurant bill plastered
all over the news, and the fact that they ordered umpteen 'blowjob
shooters'. Great job, boys. I'm sure the kids must be very proud of you.
