Hi,

You might all appreciate pointers to the recordings of two interesting talks given in the last month or so. They both give insightful accounts on the history of Functional Programming and the lambda calculus, and how we got to where we are now.

- Talk 1
Speaker: Phil Wadler
Title: This history of the lambda calculus
Venue: SICSA PhD conference, Glasgow Caledonian

- Talk 2 (best utilized if the notes are followed closely throughout - they are chronologically well matched)
Speaker: David Turner
Title: Some History on Functional Programming Languages
Venue: Trends in Functional Programming, St. Andrews

Next... there is a 3 day functional programming contest this weekend coming. The ICFP programming contest happens every year, and is a popular international challenge. It's better to participate in teams:

Lastly, don't forget that we've got a talk next Tuesday 10th July at 7pm:
Speaker: Sven-Bod Sholz
Title: Aiming for HP3: High-Productivity, High-Performance, and High-Portability

Hey Rob,
Is there any sign of Phil Wadler's slides for this talk? ... because I completely cannot see the screen.
Cheers
Sean
