Edibles!!

My, it's been a rainy and dreary week.  Our next pick-up is Saturday, May 12th.  The deadline to order is Wednesday May 9th, overnight.  Order your shares at ediblealchemyfoods.com/order, mobile users can visit eae.ecwid.com.  Volunteers are loved at Eco on Saturday from 10am-6pm.

We have a handful of excited and talented co-ordinators in training right now gearing up to help us offer weekly shares!  Stay tuned, we're waiting for the full Midwest farm season to roll in, looking for a few more talented co-ordinators, and then we'll be announcing our weekly schedule soon.  We will still maintain our pay-as-you-go, no-obligation options, as well as adding options for auto-billing and subscriptions. This should let you customize you pickup experience: once a week, three weeks out of four, once a month, or however your vegetable consumption goes. Please give us your feedback as we transition about how to improve your share pickups. AND-- help contribute to the life of your co-op by volunteering!

Next up is Liqueur Elixirs--Back by popular demand!!

An exciting way to get into making your own liqueur brews at home with no yeast or long fermentation to tackle.  We'll go over the basics of making infusions, simple syrup, simple turbinado syrup, and mixing flavors.  After we've made several single flavor liqueurs we will all create our own blend to take home, and will get to try each other's creations as we go.  A great time will be had by all.

When: Saturday March 31, 2012 2pm-4:30pm
Where: The Eco Collective (RSVP for address)
Cost: $30
Instructor: Victor Kinzer

Supplies: Bring a mason jar, or other glass jar that you've cleaned out and a shot glass.  Also bring along a notebook and pen if you find notes to be useful.

This Month's Pickle Party--

Asparagus: the heralder of spring! It’s one of the first crops up, and only lasts until the spring weather turns to summer. Thanks to our global economy you can find asparagus all year flown in from other continents, but the environmental impact is much lower if you buy local and preserve it yourself.

This class will teach how to take fresh, tasty asparagus, and preserve it in your very own ball jar to eat at your leisure later in the summer (or as a decadent treat in winter…). We will cover the basics of canning & preserving which you can later use for many other forms of pickles and jams besides asparagus. No longer an archaic culinary art form, preserving is gaining much popularity in kitchens and restaurants across the world right now as a way to increase self-sustainability skills, eat locally grown food all year, and to create shelf stable condiments and gifts for others.

All participants will go home with a quart ball jar of tasty pickled asaparagus, and a recipe to remind them of the method for pickling.

Some Materials Provided.

What to Bring
-an apron (or clothes you don't mind getting sloppy)
-comfortable shoes
-a notebook & pen, if you want to take notes

Date: Monday May 14, 2012
Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Location: Eco (RSVP for address)
Instructor: Andrea Mattson-McGaffey
