Dear Folks,

With the holidays almost behind us - time for gardening help.

Free seed share and my 'how to' class held in 2 different locations
for your convenience.

January / February is both the end of the winter and annual planting /
perennial planting time and the beginning of the time for sowing or
transplanting spring / summer edibles (with frost protection is set
out early).

Potatoes - if you want to grow potatoes (Irish type - sweet potatoes
are planted after April when you have harvested the Irish) you need to
get them growing NOW. I prefer the mulch method, saves cuts and
wounds to the 'taters when harvesting. Prepare the area, loosen the
soil, lay the potatoes on the surface, cover with 2 inches of mulch
leaves, and add mulch as the plants grow up so that you always have
about 8 inches of mulch on top - harvest in April when the plants
begin to yellow - fun stuff.

Okay, seed share and class info.

The seed share does not require registration, but the 2 classes do.

January 18th, Friday - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. SEED SHARE!!!
Mesa Farmers Market
Center Street, Mesa, - south of University on the east side grass
area.

FREE Seed Share/Swap at the Market with Catherine, The Herb Lady as
host and to help with questions about gardening in the desert. You do
not need seeds to participate - come on out and pick up seeds to start
your spring gardens. Share seeds if you have some. We are going to
do these seed shares 2 or 3 times a year and want to begin to
transition into heirloom varieties, so keep that in mind when sharing
- we still have some 'modern' seeds - don't want them to go to
waste. :-)
