Simplifying is always a good idea and yes I think taking the
annotation route is the cleaner approach than using the DB meta data.

Regarding, MapBean, I haven't used it but I think it makes using
native SQL easier than having to work with JDBC. But if there is no
real need for it then cleaning it out would also be a good idea.
