We have recently started using Fest and it runs great locally, but on
our hudson build machine using xvnc we get random test failures.
Sometimes a test fails because the text entered into a text box is
missing the last letter, sometimes a checkbox does not get selected
and other times the selection in a combo box does not change. Usually
rerunning the build will fix the error.

We've tried running different window managers under xvnc, increasing
the robot delayBetweenEvents and eventPostingDelay, all without any
affect. I've also run the same tests under xvnc locally without
issue.

Has anyone else experienced random errors such as this or have some
suggestions on how to make the GUI more reliable?

Andy.

I found running Hudson using an actual vnc server rather than xvnc to
be more reliable.

Hi Andy,

We have exactly the same problem with a very similar configuration as
you (we use team city). For example, I have a test that randomly
fails to click a button immediately after I do a require visible and
require enabled on the button. This test has never failed on my Linux
dev machine but does so regularly on our Linux TC box.

I would be interested to know what you find out.

I have tried it both ways with the same results.
