It had been a month since he stumbled (literally) into Fiena. And Zira had not attempted to talk to him. He had not really said much else to Fi about it, either. But Gisbonth was eight months old now, and... well, he was probably old enough for Dak to make this happen. He had to talk to her sooner or later. Now was as good a time as any, he supposed.

((Hey, Melchiorth, 'sup, bro!)) Gisbonth greeted the other blue. ((My man Dak needs to have a little heart-to-heart with your girl - is that cool, bro?)) he asked.

Melchiorth thought his fellow-blue was definitely a little different in how he spoke. To the point where it was slightly annoying. But His hadn't spoken to Dak in a few months and it was probably time to address the whole issue that had been on his girls mind the past while.

((Gisbonth's would like to speak with you, heart to heart as he said.)) They'd just finished cleaning up after his dinner, and were enjoying a quiet evening by the lake. Zira mulled the request in her mind and realized that it was probably time get officially back in touch with Dak. She still wasn't sure what he was to her, and this was probably the best time to try and start figuring that out, and possibly introduce the idea of Fi to him.

She already knew that her new crush was not going to go over well, but maybe she'd get lucky. Faranth knew she was due something.

((We are by the lake Gisbonth.))

Gisbonth sent back a feeling of cool appreciation. Something that might have been interpreted as a wordless, 'Groovy, bro, thanks.' It did not take long for Dak and his blue to land nearby. The young man's heart was beating like a hammer. He had thought for months about what he would say, but Gisbonth's words to him on the night Fi had attempted to sneak out stuck with him. Whatever he did and said had to be as much for himself as for her. He waved. She really was beautiful there with Melchiorth. The two of them really did complement each other well.

   Dak dismounted and walked closer.

Leaning against Melchiorth, Zira saw the two land and took a moment to realize just how much Dak had grown up alongside his blue. She nodded in return to his wave and waited till he got within speaking distance, standing up straight. Clearing her throat she looked him up and down.

"Hiya Dak. The Lower Caverns worker I used to know  has certainly grown up a bit. How've you been?"  Faranrth that was awkwardly put, good going.  On the other hand... if there was one thing Weyrlinghood did, it was get you in shape.

"Hey, Zi," Dak responded, smiling appreciatively. He supposed it was good that she did not see him as a kid any more. And he would not lie - he was very pleased with the muscles he had earned. Weyrlinghood was much more of a physical job than the one he had in the lower caverns. To be sure, he lifted things, but there was quite a bit more hide work and number crunching. He could not deny just how... stunning she was. Seeing her made him all the more sure that he had reached the right conclusion.

"Gisbonth and I, we've been working hard. Listen," Dak said, not wasting any time, "I've had a lot on my mind since... well, since a couple of months ago, and we've worked out how we feel about some things, and I want to get a couple of them off my chest. Is that OK?"

Right to the chase then, and as her smile faded, Zira began to feel slightly uneasy. This could get a little messy if Dak was going to profess undying love or something like that. And if Fi had run into him, that could make for an interesting one sided conversation as well. Oh boy. Nodding, she crossed her arms giving him her full attention.

"Fire away." Why was her mouth dry all of a sudden?

"I should start with the stuff that will at least hopefully make you smile. I don't care that you... That you're with Fi. Or whatever." He had cared at first, but after having time to cool off and think about it, he knew that trying to put those two girls in a cage could never end well for him. "I like Fi, and I want to keep being friends with her. And I don't want things to be weird between the three of us. I dunno if you talked to her about when we bumped into each other..." Despite the worry in the pit of his stomach, he sounded and looked more confident than he ever had before.

"But I do love you. And I want to be with you, too. I... I can live with it if you don't love me back as long as we can still be friends. Hopefully, friends who have sex sometimes." He grinned at Zira. "But it's only fair that you know. And... that's pretty much it." He nodded and waited to hear if she had anything to say to him.

She had a very interesting mix of emotions run through her head as Dak spoke. Her chest clenched tight with anxiety as he spoke, and then as he finished the thought, relaxed. Ok, so that was ok. There wasn't going to be any big fight or heated words over that. Wanting to all be friends was fine and well, and the fact that those two had already had this conversation made her feel slightly guilty for not bringing it up earlier. He kept talking and she felt the nerves come back. That love word she wasn't sure she could say back yet, but friends. Friends she could do.

Managing to force the embaresment about the whole conversation aside for a moment, she nodded.

"Right. I guess on my end, I'm sorry for not letting you know about Fi earlier. She's the twin I never had, and it just kinda happened." Looking, hunting for a lighter moment she grinned back. "Good luck trying to keep the two of us crazy reckless blueriders out of serious trouble." Biting her lip, she pondered how to answer that last part. "Friends I can do, and we'll see about the rest. Don't feel like you have to focus just on me. Plenty of others in the Weyr that'd kill for a guy like you."

"Gis and I are still under restrictions for now, so we'll see what happens when it happens," Dak answered. He had no intentions of focusing his attention elsewhere, but if something could just "happen" like it did with Zira and Fiena, well... maybe it could with him, too. Listen, I... this, all of this, was supposed to take pressure OFF of you," he explained. "So, I mean... I don't mean to push you into anything. If... if Fi is for you, and just Fi, then that's how it is. It'll hurt for a while, and maybe then it'll heal. But I won't push you. That'll only make it worse, right?"

"I... I want to be a reckless bluerider with you, too," Dak added finally. He wanted to be a part of their group.

Zira nodded, leaning back against Melchiorth for support again. Contact with the blue made thinking about these things a little easier, and kept her grounded. Blushing now, she listened and then tried to find words that wouldn't hurt him but get her point across just as well. "Yeah, pushing things is never a good idea. You remember last time I'm sure." That had led to a long period of not speaking at all, only resolved with an injury in a Weyr Tunnel, and a long painful walk out.

"I just- I don't know Dak. I don't know if I can give you a answer today about how I feel. You and I have both changed a good bit since this all started way back when. So, lets call it friends now, and as Gib gets older see what crazy mischief the three of us can find, and go from there. Ok?"

"I don't need an answer today. I just needed to tell you how I feel. And like I said, I can live with 'friends.'" Dak smiled and held out his hand to her to shake. "We'll go from there when it's time."

Zira nodded, and standing up straight again took the offered hand. "Fair enough, we can start with that Dak. Or would you prefer D'kesh now?" Squeezing the hand tight she pulled the Weyrling into a crushing hug for a few seconds before letting him go.

"Thanks for being awesome. I really appreciate it."

((That went better than I'd hoped.)) The observation from Melchiorth to his fellow blue was neutral in tone, and a touch relieved.

"I'd really like it if you still called me Dak," he answered. "It's hard to find people who will." Dak smiled brightly, happy as he could have expected to be. "Now maybe we can all be awesome together, since I've finally learned how not to be a square."

Zira nodded, "Dak it is." She smiled back, glad that this had all turned out significantly better than she'd thought it might. "Sure, sure. Though don't lose all of that common sense. I'd hate for us to all end up trapped somewhere with no-one else to come and play rescuer."

((Excuse me...)) Zira chuckled, as Mel had broadcast to them both. "Dragons excepting, I suppose."

Dak chuckled with her, and Gisbonth certainly appreciated the sentiment as well. "I can still be the voice of reason. But I want to be right there with you guys instead of... you know, running away to tell on you."

"Fine by me. More than fine." She fidgeted slightly, "Tell you what. Grab a seat if you'd like and we can catch up a little bit." She paused, moving to sit against her blue."That is if you don't have anywhere to be. I know your schedule is still crazy, eight months in." Weyrlinghood hardly ever allowed free time for anything other than sleep and a few quiet moments with one's lifemate.

"I can spare a few more minutes, I think," Dak said, smiling as he sat down, leaning up against Gisbonth, who rumbled appreciatively at the contact. "So, what's been going on? What did I miss?" Other than the 'having a girlfriend' thing, he supposed.

"Oh, not terribly much. Just the usual you know. Drill and threadfall, with such adventures as I have time for in between." She chuckled a little, and looked a Dak, wary to bring up Fi again."Did my little misadventure with Fi into lake diving make the Weyrling Barracks gossip round? That was before she Impressed." She tried to hide the pride in her voice, and hoped she mostly succeeded.

"That's been the only big thing. Got my butt chewed out for that by X'lan and the Wingleader, so I've been keeping mostly quiet as of late. 'Bout time for another adventure soon though. I'm getting restless."

"No, I didn't hear... But I'm glad no one got hurt. You know, since you got your butt chewed and all." Dak wondered if he would have gone along if he had been invited, or if he would have been a wet blanket as per usual. "Maybe next time, I can go along," he said. "Gisbonth is probably old enough," he added.

It was funny, talking to Dak now. Watching her friend, she realized how much he had changed in the past months. Still serious, but in a different way now. She could see him thinking through the words and instead of accounting for the usual rules, thinking about his blue instead. The fact that he extended the tentative comment about a 'next time' also spoke worlds. She realized she was staring at him in silence, and hastily caught up on the conversation.

"Sure, if he's cool with it. They're all really varied on comfort zones for a while, aren't they? Mel was all over the place for a while." She fell silent a moment, thinking. "Probably be just us, since Fi isn't allowed to do much of anything stupid or remotely dangerous for a good long while." She chuckled a little, and then grew a little more serious gazing again at the boy turned man.

"She is doing ok, isn't she? I don't see her at all, and while her letters are pretty upbeat... She's not like you. You always were squared away and had a plan and always seemed so solid. She's not, not all the time. And I worry." Blushing she looked away, very much aware that her heart was on her sleeve in the moment.

Dak smiled brightly at the suggestion of doing anything "just us" with Zira. Despite the fact that he had decided to be OK with her doing whatever she wanted with whoever she wanted, it was still a beautiful thing to him that she would choose to do some things with him. And even with just him. He tried his best - and mostly succeeded - not to lose his good temperament when Zira then immediately fell into worrying about Fi. She would worry about him, too, if he were in that position, too, right? Surely, she would. And she could worry about whomever she wanted. Dak should be worried for Fi, too, for that matter, if Zira was! She was his friend, too.

"Well, I only see her after class, you know... Well, I mean... she seems just as upbeat to me. I don't think she's worried. Want me to try to find out?" he suggested.

" Of course. Well, if you can without to much trouble. I'd really appreciate Dak." She smiled at him again. Of course, Dak was a class ahead Fi so he wouldn't be able to do that much, if anything. Still, they were both in the blue section of the Barracks, that was something. She thought back on the letters again. They were most all upbeat, but every now and again she caught a bit of something else. Trouble with classmates and the like.

"She's this bundle of crazy wild life, and her blue is as well, but I get a feeling they're isolated... Or something. And that's all before thinking about the usual Weyrlinghood dangers. You both will worry me sick 'till you graduate." It all rambled out, and she caught herself at that point. 'Way to play it cool Zira...'
