Though the summer heat
hung heavy on the air, there was at least one stall that had brought along its
own additional warmth. A small firepit had been dug, and currently was being
put to use warming several large pots of flit eggs positioned around the glowing
embers. The eggs were grouped according to size, and ran the gamut of the usual
prices, from 2 marks for an egg likely to hatch a green, to 5 marks for an egg
suspected to hold a bronze inside. Jastin was going around and carefully checking the heat of the sands in each
box, every now and again lifting his shrewd gaze to make sure that his two
apprentices were unpacking his other supplies in an orderly fashion. Each of
the teenagers sported a simple set of shoulderknots strung with a lavender
cord, just like their master - Jastin was officially a dragonhealer, but he had specifically studied the
ailments of flits and whers and was thus able to effectively make his home
outside of the Weyr as he practiced his specialty, beholden to the support of
no one location in particular. Flit breeding made him a tidy sum of marks, and
so his apprentices were always fed and his own gold flit always pampered – and he
had the pride of knowing that no one would ever buy a dud egg from *his* stall.
At least no one would ever buy a dud egg from *his* stall. On his shoulder, the
miniature queen Rija cheeped in offense at the very thought. After all, one of
the clutches currently for sale was her own - *she* would never lay a dud!
Jastin grinned and lifted one hand to deliver a mollifying stroke up her
slender golden throat, feeling the familiar thrum against the back of his
fingers. “Perish the thought, sweetheart,” he murmured softly to her, his gaze
flicking suddenly away as it was caught by the sweeping descent of the first
draconic arrival to the Gather. The sun was rising and the crowds would begin soon… Jastin glanced
back to the large stone egg pots ringing the firepit, and a surprisingly
sentimental smile lingered on his face as he thought of the single egg pot that
his tiny queen had *insisted* upon hiding within the structure of the firepit itself.
Someone was about to have a much better Gather day than they expected… It was
lucky that Rija had never picked poorly, he supposed, but everyone she’d
selected in the past had been someone he’d been glad to delight with the
surprise, and he was looking forward to having that opportunity again. Another
dragon bugle struck the air, and the Dragonhealer’s smile broadened back to his
usual grin, his gaze returning front. “Ready for the customers, Rija?”
~Always!~
A long counter in front of the firepit held
various flit-oriented supplies that the stall also sold - individual egg pots
and oil were the most obvious essentials, but there were also a few slings to
hold newborns, as well as a few flit-sized hammocks and pillows. Two large
signs leaned up against either side of the counter, their lettering large but
neatly-printed. They were identical in their wording, each leaning at a
diagonal so that someone approaching from the front or from either side could
read them easily:
The Hatchery: Jastin's Flit Eggs
Bronze Eggs - 5 marks
Brown Eggs - 4 marks
Blue Eggs - 3 marks
Green Eggs - 2 marks
Satisfaction guaranteed!
OOC: When a character requests ICly to see a
certain group of eggs (bronze, brown, blue, or green), I'll show you the
picture of the eggs available, and you pick which egg your charrie wants. If
you'd like to have your character purchase an egg which hatches another color,
which does occasionally happen sometimes since the pricing is essentially based
on just a good guess, please email me directly. We'll only be allowing a
maximum of two of those situations this Gather, and the flits involved can only
hatch one color 'level' DOWN from what was purchased. So a brown egg could
hatch a blue, but not a bronze or a green, and a blue egg could hatch a green.
Furthermore, if you'd like to have your flit
written up for you and the sheet emailed to you as a surprise, please email
Killingly directly. ^_^
