EarthNC v1.01 Beta - Map Download Fix

Hi everyone,

We got some reports that map downloads would hang or become very slow. This version should fix that issue.


If you have some time in the next hour or so, please let us know if map downloads work OK for you now. We are going to post this to the Market ASAP.

I am running my own tests now.

Hi,

What I noticed was that once a map download was started it was impossible to abort it.  It could be paused but not altogether aborted which is very annoying.  It was like tryng to kill a zombie.  I tried force killing app, downloas service, etc. To no avail.  Would b nice to add this abort feature.  Regards,

The new release has been posted to the Market. 

We'll be watching to make sure this is fixed completely, but map downloads are working nicely for us now. The nice thing about Android is we can push fixes fast, so let us know if anything else critical pops up, and we'll jump on it.

Thanks, just bought it at the market.  I assume this now overrides any future betas, or will they continue to work, or will you discontinue the beta program soon.

Andrew, just tried to purchase from the market. Order was cancelled due to a server error in the market.

The latest 1.0 beta you sent keeps freezing on startup on my new droid2. Worked fine on mr droid 1 yesterday.

Ill forward the cancel email on a seperate message.

I tested 3 large downloads this morning and all went fine. I forced
an error by going into airplane mode, causing the download to fail. I
could then resume the download and it completed fine.

What sort of phone do you have though, and who is your carrier? It could be you aren't able to use the main Android Market I have heard.

I'm sorry I can't be of better assistance. This is a mystery to me.

I am guessing this is some error in the market - maybe your local data is cached. I have also had one other report of a user who's sale was cancelled by the Market after it happened because of "internal error."

The Android market has some strange Google bugs that affect a small
percentage of users.

My DriodX on Verizon is having a similar problem of not letting me
purchase the app. Based on a lot of Google searches, this is a market
bug that Google is still addressing.

We'll certainly post more info when we learn more.

I think the bearing on the Guide to Waypoint is odd. The convention on
most GPS units is to show the magnetic bearing from your current
position to the waypoint. It appears to me that the program in Guide
to Waypoint gives the relative bearing from your motion. For example,
i just placed a waypoint that is about 225 degress magnetic from my
position. I am stationary. The bearing on the program says "142W". I
assume this is either 142 from where it thinks I'm heading (it appears
to be north). Is this correct? It also doesn't make clear whether it's
magnetic or true. Again, a standard GPS unit always says "M" or "T" to
make that clear.

Thanks for your notes.

1) I did a quick test, and I agree that the guidance is whacky. I'll have a look at the code and see if I can sort it out.

2) We'll definitely a a Magnetic/True toggle to the app. This is something we just haven't gotten to yet :)

Ok, I figured out that there are two issues.

We are not reporting the NESW letter correctly, and the modulus is incorrect, so numeric values between 181-360 are incorrect, but values between 1-180 are correct now.

I will send out a fix in a few minutes.
