I don't have any Mac experience, but I've had similar problems with GE
on the PC.  Here's how I solved it:

1. set the memory cache to a small number (I don't go over 100 MB):
tools>options>cache
2. then clear the memory cache

Since setting the memory cache to 100 MB, I haven't had any banding
problems.
