This is a note to assure people who are having problems getting Google
Earth to work that, at least for me, I was able to get Google Earth to
work beautifully on my system:
- Intel Core2Duo
- 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron - Desktop amd64)
- nVidia GeForce 7300GT AGP 512 MByte
- Google Earth 4.3.7191.6508 (beta)

I tried to upgrade directly from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 but had problems
primarily because I replaced my ATI graphics card with an nVidia
graphics card a few months ago and this caused the automatic updater
to get confused. I got the nVidia card specifically for GE but all the
Ubuntu Advanced Desktop Effects work great now too. Anyhow, I ended
having to do a fresh install of 8.04.

I have seen, and was able to fix, the very, very small fonts problem
that others have reported. But after a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04
and GE 4.3 there were only two problems I had to overcome:

***************************************** PROBLEM 1: setup.gtk2: not
found
Here's the terminal session:
$ sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Google Earth for GNU/Linux
4.3.7191.6508..............................................................
./setup.sh: 284: setup.data/bin/Linux/amd64/setup.gtk2: not found
./setup.sh: 299: setup.data/bin/Linux/amd64/setup.gtk: not found
The setup program seems to have failed on amd64

Fatal error, installer failed to run at all!
***************************************** SOLUTION:
In Synaptic package manager, install "ia32-libs"

***************************************** PROBLEM 2: Error code 29
Once GE had been installed when I tried to run it, I got the following
dialog box:
"Google Earth detected an error while trying to authenticate. Please
check the following
...
Error Code 29"
***************************************** SOLUTION:
In Synaptic package manager, install "lib32nss-mdns"

Now the GE default font sizes are good and GE runs quickly and error-
free. The only thing that isn't perfect is the fact that GE+ is not
available for Linux but I imagine that that is on the way. Thanks
Google for an amazing program!
